Hi there.
My MOT runs out on Tuesday and the only place that has space for a retest before then is the official Pug garage in Stafford... It costs £40 but I was wondering if this is a good idea as I dont know things like free retest availability or if repairs are going to cost more etc!
Any advice would be gr8 thx!

You don't have time on your side I'm afraid.
My wife's Focus had done 5,500 from new and the Ford garage charged £280 for MOT and service (after quoting £140 for th service). There were no problems found during the MOT or service. As a result, I wouldn't buy a packet of mints from them now. They even charged £10 plus fuel for a courtesy car.
MOT due 1 Apr and I booked it in to an independant garage for 22 Mar. That was the earliest date that they had available. Free courtesy car iof required.
Sorry I'm no help. You may be able to negotiate a free re-test providing the car is returned to them within a certain time-scale and the faults are minor. Other than that, put a reminder on your mobile to re-test early Feb '08.

As far as I'm aware they legally have to free re-test within think its 7 days so long as it fails on the following:
# ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) WARNING
# BODY CONDITION
(WHERE THE EXAMINATION OF THE BODY IS CARRIED OUT SOLELY FOR THE PURPOSE OF ASCERTAINING WHETHER THERE ARE ANY SHARP EDGES OR PROJECTIONS LIKELY TO CAUSE INJURY)
# BOOT LID
# BRAKE PEDAL ANTI-SLIP DEVICES
# DIRECTION INDICATORS/ HAZARD WARNING
# DOORS
# DROPSIDES
# EXHAUST EMISSIONS
# FUEL FILLER CAP
# HEADLAMP AIM
# HORN
# LAMPS
# LOADING DOOR
# MIRRORS
# REAR REFLECTORS
# REGISTRATION PLATES
# SEAT BELTS (BUT NOT ANCHORAGES)
# SEATS
# STEERING WHEEL
# TAILBOARD
# TAILGATE
# V. I. N.
# WINDSCREEN
# WINDSCREEN WIPERS/ WASHERS
# WHEELS AND TYRES (Class III, IV and VII only)
There's nothing major wrong with it at all so it should be fine!!!! If not i'll get the fixing done somewhere else and get a free retest!
The MOT was quoted to me at £40 and elsewhere in Stafford it was £50! So that's not too bad. I have seen a random garage somewhere so may just pop in tomorrow and see what they can do for me![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

I always take my Peugeots to the Express Fit for MoT - they do the job for £35, have never failed me and are surprisingly reasonable if repairs do need doing. My usual mechanic is not an MoT tester so I don't take the car to him - it's easier for me to get the test done at the franchise - and whilst I wouldn't go as far as saying that a garage I know nothing about will definitely be fine, I wouldn't be overly concerned at the fact that it's a franchise.Debt at highest: September 2003 - £26,350

You mean Kwik Fit? They dont have time for over a week!!!! which is a bit insane as last year they did it the same day so I'm a bit annoyed at that tbh! Can give nationwide auto center a ring in the mornin.. I have AA Roadside Recovery card so think I get discount! But don't know if they have time![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

No, I mean Express Fit. Express Fit is the fast-fit operation run by Peugeot, next to their main dealerships and workshops, aimed at keeping older cars within the manufacturer network at lower cost.Debt at highest: September 2003 - £26,350
