Mobile Phone Insurance

MSE advise don't pay for mobile phone insurance when buying a new phone, add it to your house contents insurance. I have just enquired the cost from my insurer, it is a lot cheaper than the phone company but it doesn't include liquid damage. Is this standard as one of my phones had liquid damage, don't know how, possibly condensation or a rain drop. Please help don't know what to do now!!

Have only claimed for a mobile when DD's handbag was stolen, along with phone, so don't know about liquid damage.
However, unless personal possessions cover provided with the home insurance specifically says that liquid damage to a mobile is not covered, then I would have thought "accidental damage or loss of..." would cover it.
Shop around and ask insurers if such an event is covered. I was looking at a DirectLine policy and there was no mention of mobiles being excluded.

  • Go compare mobile insurance- 5.99 a month.

Covers: Unauthorised calls, liquid damage, breakdown, loss, theft, accidental damage and international cover.

Worth its weight in gold if something goes wrong.

yes but taking out insurance for a phone which is already damaged prior to policy take out is fraud.

additionally most policies will have an exclusion period at the beginning, usually around 14 days - they can require you to prove the phone was functional during that period before allowing a claim too.
