I think he's had the problem since birth so maybe his parents reserved it for him!0 -

I saw this discussed on another forum I frequent. the options that are available are
1. One of the companies you mentioned which will advertise it but you have to retain it until they find a buyer, there is no guarentee they will achieve the price quoted either and they take a commision.
2. Ebay
3. Just leave it on the car or get rid of it.
The problem with private plates is unless its something that people are going to want you could end up retaining it for quite a while which cost you money and you dont know how much you will get.
The concenus on the other forum was to either keep it on the car or just get rid if its nothing special and wont sell quickly0 -

Thanks RGD.
Was told by the guy I bough the car from he paid a grand for it, he was going to retain it but think he has money problems so cannot and as i've had the car 6 months I told him I have waited long enough now and he agreed.
I did one of those what's it worth duberry thingys and it came back with £850 to me and they would put there commission on top etc.
Given the value I might pay the £80 to retain it and advertise it myself. Forget that, just checked and it's £105 and that is only for a year!
Will leave it on the car and try and sell it on fleabay or elsewhere then!

Yeah the £105 for the first year then £45 IIRC for the each following year makes retaining it expensive as you have no idea how long it will take to sell.
I think your approach is probably best from a money saving perspective.0 -
The initial fee to place a registration on retention is £105. The retention document can be renewed at £25 for each additional year.
If after the first year you have not managed to sell the registration the retention document has a cash-in value of £80. Your potential loss is £25.
What is the actual registration? If you don't feel comfortable publishing the registration publicly, send me a private message.0
