Carphone Warehouse won't refund charger

I bought a charger for a Blackberry Torch at the Carphone Warehouse in a aberration and of course could have got it much cheaper online. it is still unopened but they say that they cannot refund accessories.

Are they within their rights to say this?

yup unless you bought it online in which case the distance selling regulations should apply.

In fact, for any in-store purchases, not just accessories, there is no any cooling off period unless the store's policy is more generous than the SOG act.

Yes, they are entirely within their rights to refuse to refund. If there is no problem with the item, then they have no legal obligation to refund you.
A lot of major retailers offer (generous) returns policies that go over and above their statutory obligations - HOWEVER - this is done entirely on a goodwill basis only.
