This thread has already been a little heavy on invective and rhetoric, while also being (with notable exceptions) light on solid investment case technicals, so why would anyone be interested in a thread that promises to be even more "Fisher Price"?
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

Oh well perhaps my moving out will help remove the invective and rhetoric. As to whether you can manage to improve the solid investment case technicals that is up to the specialists here. I outlined my broad brush approach and as I invest in funds I rely on fund managers to sort out the technicalities. Way beyond my competence.

Why is gold not about luck ? Because british currency was gold up until 1971, ask your parents.

Funny, I seem to recall Britain left the Gold Standard in 1931 and the post-war Bretton -Woods act established a Dollar Standard, convertible into gold at fixed price, (which ended in 1971) which isn't quite the same thing at all is it? In any case, pre-1931 cash could only be converted on Standard in prohibitive amounts so didn't really help the average poor punter who wanted to cash in. Even buying a single sovereign would have been difficult for most.

Just to add value to the above post the link leads to an Ernst and Young comment that profit warnings are about the same for the first quarter as a year ago and that the markets are volatile.

It then waffles about what might happen but I couldn't see anything new.

Best summed up by "Mr Hudson said the special events taking place in the UK this year made it even harder to predict the economic outlook."
I believe past performance is a good guide to future performance

Other news covered bears and popes ...

As I lack a crystal ball, I'm going to stick to my gnarly old contrarian ways. I'm currently tilting in favour of (yet more) subordinated financial debt, the less fashionable parts of Europe and Japan. Any further falls in the Tesco ordinaries and I might back the truck up to that one too.
