How much should new brake pads be? (Kia Ceed)

this is a 58 plate Ceed with 80K miles & Kia garage has quoted £254 for front and £277 for rear (or extra £100 for Kia parts)

that's mad, isn't it? supposedly this is only for pads, not discs (information is second-hand!)

car is still covered by the 7-year/100K mile warranty - as long as servicing is done by Kia dealer, we can get the brakes done at a local garage without forfeiting the warranty, can't we?

Pads are £33 front and £46 rear for Pagid (brand name) at Eurocarparts.

Manufacturers are no longer allowed to specify that work is done at a dealer to maintain warranty - this was outlawed years ago

The same Pagid brand pads here are even less at £25.80 front and £37.80 rear here

From memory when we had our Rio's brakes done, the whole lot (disks, pads and labour) was about £270 at our local dealership, presumably using the Kia original parts as they never said what type they used.

They also did the rear tyres (and swapped front to rear) for less than we had paid for the last lot of tyres from one of the local tyre places.

Janh, have you got a quote from the dealer for the work?
Ours seems to be almost much as cheap as any of the local reputable garages*, and sometimes cheaper.

Latecomer, that is true, but IIRC the manufacturer is still allowed to require that the parts used are up to their standard, OEM from a decent company should be.

*IE those that aren't Kwit fit, or one man outfits.

First link just goes to Pagid.de and I don't think you can order from them.

Carparts4less is still just over £25 though.

I based the price on a 1.6 petrol but i suspect they are all the same.

Does mean the OP has been quoted a hefty mark up or is simply being hit hard with main dealer labour rates.

Well Saab dealers where I live now charge £70+vat per hour labour so its makes pretty much any job expensive particularly when you use dealer list prices on the parts too.

Warranty does not cover wear and tear parts such as brakes & tyres etc.

Warranty is valid as long as genuine Kia parts are used and fitted by a VAT registered garage. This does not have to be the Kia dealer.

Get quotes from local garages and ask each one what brand of brakes the quote is for. The likes of Ferodo, Pagid, Mintex are all good quality

Plus others as long as non Kia parts are of comparable quality.

    Thanks all for advice :)

The figures in my OP were quotes from the Kia dealer!

We're now getting just the rear brakes done initially, at a recommended local service garage. They have quoted approx 1 hr of labour at £30, plus parts (& also plus VAT I assume) but going by the prices mentioned here the parts shouldn't be too bad. My daughters have both had their cars serviced there & they do a good job at a very fair price. (When one needed a bulb replacing once they only charged for the bulb, not the time)

It won't be done until next week, I'll come back when I know what we actually pay!

    Thanks again

    update:

local garage charged £60 all in for the back brakes!!! How on earth could the Kia dealer charge £270+?

It's my husband's car & he's taking it back in to the dealer on Thursday for some warranty work - I hope he'll mention how much he actually paid for the brake pads!
