Dialaphone and Orange

Hi all,

My mobile phone contract with Orange is about to expire. Therefore, I have found myself a new contract online for the phone I am after (Samsung Galaxy SII). This offer is on Dialaphone.com, and the contract itself is with Orange.

When I rang Orange today to try and negotiate a deal, they could not offer me anywhere near the deal that Dialaphone can.

So what should I do? Should I ring Orange and inform them of the details of the Dialaphone deal, asking if they can match it?

I'm not even sure how buying a contract on Dialaphone with Orange works...will they inform Orange? Will I have to cancel my current contract with Orange "manually"? Will I be able to keep my current phone number?

Thanks in advance!

  • One more thing - will the phone be locked? And if so, how easy/expensive is it to unlock?

If you buy it on a contract it will be locked.

I've dealt with Dialaphone and Orange before, I've asked them to match deals and Orange are usually very reluctant to do so, and I don't understand why. I got them to directly match something I was offered in the Phones4U store before, but that's it.

Even contract phones from d-a-p are usually unlocked.

Sure they will as they sell you a contract with Orange.

Yes if it is a new contract, not upgrade.
Will I be able to keep my current phone number?
In the worst case scenario you'll have to port it via another network PAYG sim. However, I believe that you can switch your current contract to PAYG when the min term ends, then transfer the number from PAYG to the new contract within Orange:
can I keep my number and tariff on PAYG when I get a new phone and new SIM card?
