I always thought tales of foxes chewing through brake pipes was a bit of an urban myth until taking my car for its MOT today and it failed due to this. we have huge fox population where I live in the London suburbs, does anyone know of anyway of stopping them doing this?

Lovely cuddly wubbly ickle creatures, best way to deal with them is to reinstate hunting and let the dogs on 'em.0

Are you sure its not a rat? Got to be a pretty flexible fox to reach inside the front wheel arch behind the wheel/caliper and between the suspension spring!0

I would say more likely to be rats also.
Parents have one eat through some wiring. RAC did a temp repair.
Went to the dealer and the price they quoted made them run away. Temp repair still going many years later.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I agree, rats need to constantly sharpen their teeth and plastic, rubber, wood are all ideal for this.
Put down a few humane, baited traps, and if you catch any then that is your answer.
If there is a real problem, then a .22 air rifle with telescopic sights and a lamp for night work is the way forward - assuming that your property is not too small, and the line of fire will not take in roads, footpaths and other properties.0 -
Would coating the pipes in very hot pepper sauce work?0

What about metal-braided pipes like the boy-racers use?0
