The unhelpful helpline at Virgin Media

Today I had the misfortune of ringing Virgin Media twice. The first time wasn't too bad as it was an automated message about the missing Sky 1, 2 and News channel - not heartbroken too much about the loss.
But what is really boiling my pee is I rang again as hubby has upgraded computer to Microsoft Vista and he wanted a disc to get started again on the broadband and I was told "its too new we don't provide back up, your on your own, you made the decision to buy it"
I cannot believe a so called internet provider can virtually say BOG OFF. What are we supposed to do now. We were XP - have we wasted our money:eek:
Virgin Media need to get with the technology thats out there. Vista is coming big time.

Why do you need a CD to get setup on broadband?
Just connect the PC to the router/modem and away you go0 -
Apparently you need a disc off internet provider to tell drivers what you are trying to do at least that's what happended when we upgraded to XP!0

Under normal circumstances and with any other service provider yes, but I tried to set up my step-daughters Telewest (now Virgin) last week and couldnt do it without a cd even via ethernet. I think it's all to do with registering the MAC address0 -
I've tried phoning them today.
Dialed 150 as I have a Virgin landline,a dn it went straight to the music.
Dialed their local rate number, and got through to the options
Sent them an email asking them why.
Also, did anyone get any notification that NTL had been bought out by Virgin?? Thus, their Internet, TV and phone provider would change??
I never.0 -
You dont need to register the MAC address anymore, they dropped that requirement several yrs ago.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

If you are connecting through a set top box then try unplugging the set top box and plugging it back in again. When the light on the box stops flashing open an internet explorer window and it should take you to a ntl/telewest page where you enter your PID and password. The next page will let you register a computer (this assigns your computers MAC address on the network).0

Sorry if this seems obvious, but you need to type the address to get there (or at least I did) - something that their engineers did not reveal to me after an hour of mucking around. Found out by accident. I am not happy with NTL / Virgin / whoever!Don't bother trying to sue me - I've got no money!0 -
If you have a decent router, ie a lynksys it will take care of all this for you. Just plug the ethernet cable in and you are done. Easy peasy!

Hi Rickhoughton,
I was with Telewest and got no warning from them that they were changing to Virgin Media, just turned on my TV the other day to find a notice on the screen saying that the Telewest Service was no longer available. Could have knocked me down with a feather!:smileyheaMagenta0
