heard alot about virgin media lately and dying to know more.
We have the following
Sky box but just the freeview as it was getting sssssooo expensive = 0 month
B.t. broadband ( bog standard one ) and phone , direct debit each month £38.00. Quartly bills roughly £135.00
vodafone contract until may , can't wait to cancel as it is a rip of - £30.00 thereabout a month.
So can I change over ??? Is it really worth a go ???
Any help would be great to get back on some savings
Thanks all:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0 -
I'm quite happy we're losing it...it might make me increase the number of books I read. I find it hard to resist Lost / 24 etc...even though I know it's turning my brain to mush.0

I have a Virgin package which includes their V+ box, which I love. You can pause & rewind live TV. Also, you never have to watch a commercial. You just record a programme and then start watching it ten minutes later - it will go on recording (up to two channels) while you watch, and you just fast forward through the adverts. Marvellous. If you time it right you catch up with the live broadcast at the end of the show. The picture quality is fabulous, especially on HD, and no loss of quality with recordings as no tape is used - it goes on to a hard drive. There's also stacks of old shows you can access free.
I have no connections with the company other than as a satisfied customer, and I would never go back to sky now. Also have their broadband and phone package.0 -

THANKS FOR THE INFO.
Is it really easy to change over from sky and bt to their package ??? Must be able to save something. Also can I keep my home telephone number and would my website address change ??:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0 -
I should think that dependinghow long this goes on if the regulator gets involved they'll just tell Sky what they can charge Virgin - otherwise it's surely going to go against the monopoly rules
BTW - on Freeview you can only get Sky 3 & Sky Sports News, so not really that much loss if they're going to pull them.Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

 I am just so angry that this has happened when Sky has taken over the rights to air 'Lost'.... they should have just kept it with Channel 4 and I would be not bothered in the slightest..
Although I can easily watch Lost or something on my computer its just not the same quality! But I will endure it.
With the amount of tv show sites where you can watch your favourite programme streaming, it isn't too bad, just more of an inconvenience!
My mum and dad love to watch Stargate, 24 and all that so they have decided to go over to Sky.. so we will be eventually, I am reluctant though, but its not my choice at the end of the day.
I think Sky are just a bunch of dictators, they are almost as bad as the government. They are trying to take control of everything and ruin Virgin (NTL).. which was pretty much no different before it changed its name and thats all!!
I had been pestering my family to get Sky digital for ages and they wouldn't have it, even though everyone will have to eventually. Now they are going to because they feel they have no choice... I think that is so wrong of Sky to make people feel that way over one flippin tv channel !0 -
Apparently the whole 3rd series of Lost is going to be added to that Virgin Central channel soon (the TV On Demand thingy), so you will still be able to watch it, although not sure what will happen with the next series."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

I can't see Richard Branson taking this lying down - did you see the "letter" he published in all the Sunday newspapers?
We've got Sky but I would believe Sir Richard any day over them, our bill fluctuates all the time and we're always having to get on the phone to ask why they've charged and extra £x this month.
I think they will either:
1) get the channels back, at a rate agreed with regualtor involvement, or;
2) Fight to the death for the rights to the first series of shows like Lost and 24 next time they come up.
I won't change from Sky to Virgin until all this dies down, but I will definately be tempted in a few months, Sky One or not.Addicted to Facebook0 -
Those thinking of switching to Sky bear this in mind, Sky will loose £60M a year in lost revenue if they do not strike a deal with Virgin, and add that to the millions they have already lost on the ITV stitchup and Broadband offers, it means they will need to make up that somehow and the first person to be hit will be the consumer with price rises.
Once OFCOM step in, or the Broadcasting Rate Card review is done, whichever comes first (review due this month I think?) Sky will have no option but to supply their basic channels to Virgin, Orange, Tiscali etc. and you may well regret switching.
If you switch to Sky you're just playing up to their tactics and allowing a bully to win.BSC Member 44 - not bankrupt yet, but getting there...0 -
Just a note for those on Virgin, they have bought the rights to show Lost on their new on demand channel (119 I believe) by going directly to the makers of the show and are also showing Nip/Tuck along with some others (can't think of them off hand though) and as a previous poster mentioned sky will surely have to pass of their losses to their customers so be wary of changing.
Sky Sports News and Sky News are currently available on freeview but not sure how long this will remain for.
Most sky one programmes are repeats these days anyway, and those that aren't are all available on the good old internet !
Has anyone seen the channel names on Virgin now 602 - Sky Snooze and 515 - Sky Sports Snooze0
