Thanking her lucky stars she didn't cause an accident, yes.Obviously you managed to do the right thing and should be congratulating yourself for avoiding an accident.
Patting herself on the back because she managed to avoid one? No.
There is nothing in the OPs post to suggest the cyclist was cycling badly.Knowing how some cyclist ride, my guess is that he wasn't paying attention either
Complete guesswork. The way I read the OP, the cyclist was using the cycle lane and the OP just didn't see. She acknowledges it was her mistake. It is a common one that car drivers make. I'm not sure why you are trying to blame the cyclist.as no doubt he was overtaking on the inside approaching a junction and not anticipating the possibility of that scenario occurring.0 -
Amongst disapproving looks from some car drivers who think "that mong should be in the cycle lane".Strider590 wrote: »The clever one's they ride down the middle of the road and avoid the cycle lane altogether when traffic grinds to a halt.0 -

Yep everything you say is correct, would have been my fault if I hit him, I just didn't see him. He was in the cycle lane and wasn't doing anything wrong.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Yep everything you say is correct,

It's pleasing to see that you actually care that you made a mistake and that you're willing to openly admit it, and you didn't do what Tilt did, which was to automatically think of ways to try and place the blame on someone else. Too many people are like that!
You seem to have a good attitude to driving and I think you learnt from this the moment it happened. Don't beat yourself up about this, but don't forget it happened either. I still occasionally think back to the on-road mistakes I've made in my time, and I'm sure it helps me to stay safe and keep my driving up to standard.0 -

I won't be forgetting for a long time, that sick feeling stayed with me for days. I'm not one for blaming others if I make a mistake, there is no such thing as perfect driver and the best drivers learn from their mistakes! (Plus if I had a cyclists shaped head as mentioned earlier in this thread on my new Polo my husband would probably kill me!! :rotfl:):heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

You have my sympathy, it is so scary!
I had a near miss with a bike rider on my way to work a few weeks ago, I was driving down our road, a small private road, from a lane that comes onto our road from the left I saw two young lads coming down on their bikes, I assumed they would stop, one did, one didn't, thank god I wasn't going fast but he came of his bike.
I was out of the car like a shot, sure I had hurt him but thank god he was fine, he actually apologised to me and said not to worry it happens all the time!!!Shook me up though x0 -

And he doesn't think to alter his cycling behaviour?! :wall:0 -
Same thing happened to me on my first test when stuck behind a dustbin truck. Was flashed by a car patiently waiting for me to go, didn't move as knew was not supposed to, finally went as we were all just sitting there and failed because of it...I'll never forget on my test being flashed by another driver (trying to be helpful) and I didn't know what to do so I just sat and ignored them! The examiner finally asked me to pull out into the traffic as the other car was just sat waiting for me to go.:beer:0 -
