Talk talk engineer on his way and stuck between a rock and a hard place!

Okay been a Tiscali customer for years with no problems, bought some new wireless equipment before Christmas so Talk Talk said I needed their new modem.

Nothing but trouble since, keep losing broadband connection and always on the phone to them. Last week two days solid of no connection and now it's working when it feels like it.

They can send an engineer but if theres no fault they're going to charge me £49! I explained to them that I don't really have any option considering it's not working now and there is obviously a fault!

Engineer rang last night and said the same thing he's self employed if the faults not here they charge me!!! It's working again ATM engineers due in an hour, I have taken photos of the modem showing light errors better than Blackpool illumations as proof of faults aswell as no connection screen shots.

What else can I do?

He'a a QUBE engineer NOT a phone engineer,(They're along the same lines as PC'Worlds "The Tech Boys")so if the is a fault on the phone line anywhere, then he is neither qualified nor capable of fixing it.If the fault lies back from the NTE Master socket, then TT will send a BT Openreach engineer,at a charge of £130.

You need to connect the modem to the test socket behind the NTE faceplate, only then will it give an indication as to weather the fault is inside or outside the home.

They're called Bright Sparks engineers now, not Qube. :)

OP - I guess the engineer has been by now. If I'd seen this earlier I'd have directed you to this PDF file to do your own troubleshooting first.

Quite apt for a company that doesn't have a baldy about the stuff they fix!:rotfl:
  • Sorry for not updating sooner, I had to go out.

Anyway yes he's been and gone and I'm no further forward, the connection is still working when it feels like it. He says that I need to plug the modem into the test socket and monitor it for 24 hours and not the five minutes that the Talk talk helpline people had me doing.

No definate answer as to Talk Talk charging me for the visit but as I'm no further forward I will of course dispute a fee anyway.

I will have a look at that file now, thanks very much.
