Hello.
Since the start of April i have been getting 30-40 spam emails a day of which nearly all seem to be from the same place. It has a link for you to unsubscribe from the emails and all the emails have this (D.P.C., 1357 Broadway, #553 New York, NY 10018) in the email. I have not clicked the link by the way.
The part at the end of the senders address is a .net.
I use hotmail and WLM and every email i get i use the sweep function to delete and block the address but they keep coming.
I dont remember any problems on the computer at the start of April and i have done virus and malware checks using MSE,antispyware, spybot and malwarebytes and no problems.
Any ideas welcome.
Vince.

I'm always reluctant to get in touch with these spammers who tell me i can unsubscibe if i want to, then they'll know i exist. Isn't there a click with your provider to say an Email is spam, let them block it.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Hi agree, don't reply or click on links, it will only let the user know that your email is active and probably direct more emails to you. Just let your email service provider aware of this and mark them as spam.ewwwww what is that...0 -
Not sure if you tried this but on hotmail if you do a sweep function it gives you an option to 'manage blocked senders list'. Click on that and then type in the end of the address (you get the spam from) after and including the @ sign, e.g. @spam.com if they are all coming from the same place.0

theoldsynic i have tried the sweep function. I have also used the manage blocked senders part and they still get passed.
The domain bit after the @ is the hard part as they only have to change a letter/number and its a new address. As i have said the new spam seems to be coming from USA but that could be a front.
My hotmail account hasnt been hacked but so annoying as you have to look at every email in your junk folder to check if its for you or spam.0 -
Can't remember if this is possible or not, but can't you add something to check the body of the email for certain text?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -
Another option, check the first week or so, but it has a default spam list which you can add to, once you add anything it automatically marks any more from the sender for deletion
Any regular wanted mail can be added to the friends list
It can be set to notify you, and it only does this for mail in the friends lists, or others it isn't sure about
This is the free version which can only be used for one account

Thank you santer, i do have mailwasher.
I have used it in the past but never bothered using it for about 3 months as WLM was doing a good job.
It only started this month and i have used mailwasher for 2 days but still they come.
I dont know if they are getting better at sending spam but most of the ones i am getting are addressed to me ie. my first and last name so somebodies mailing list may have been hacked.0 -

Others warn of not clicking on links, but from genuine spam,ie; unsolicited emails you have not asked for, not only does this alert the sender that your email address is active, but just opening it without clicking on anything also alerts them too.
That's why I use Gmail. It lets you hover over the From name, and gives you the email it's been sent from. This is usually enough info for me to know it's spam.
If not, I do a search for the name in the From column, just in case I actually did voluntarily sign up for a newsletter and forgot about it.
Then if I only see that one email from that name, I know it's spam without opening it.Look at it this way... In a hundred years who's gonna care?0 -

I find Gmail is very good at identifying spam and putting it in the right folder. Occasionally some get through and sometimes legitimate emails go into the spam folder but this doesn't happen very often.0 -

this only happens if you have 'Show images' enabled by default (also known as 'Fetch images' and 'Download images'),
most things have this disabled by default (I know Gmail and Hotmail on the web do and Live Mail on the desktop also does)
but some email clients will automatically download images without asking for your permission at which point that could alert a spammer your address is real.
if you know that you don't have automatically fetching images turned on then opening an email can't alert a spammer on its own.
ps I just checked on my old hotmail account and holding your mouse over a senders name does show the senders email address without the need to open the email.0
