I bought my Peugeot 206 1.1 LX 2000 5 weeks ago from a private seller with 112K miles on the clock. A week after I bought it the clutch went, paid £200 to get the car back on the road, 2 weeks ago the starter motor went and I paid a further £115 to repair that. And now, the head gasket has gone and have been quoted £400 to fix, as reasonable as the price is I am not willing to pay it! I was contemplating scrapping the car, however I would only get £100 and despite the head gasket going the car still runs great and looks virtually new. Would it be worth selling the car for spares or repairs? How much would I expect to get? Or am I just chasing a lost cause?! Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thank you, Hannah.

depends roughly where you are in the country as to value;);)

Are you 100% sure you bought it from a private seller? Have you checked the previous owner's details on the V5 etc?

Quite, which is why the OP needs to be sure it was a private seller.

    one of your lot?
you mean someone in full time employment paying no tax getting cheaper base adverts in the autotrader as private, selling it from home and deny the consumer their consumer rights?
do NOT class me with that as i find it very offensive:mad:

Yet you don't seem to have much of a moral objection in 'mugging the private punter' who goes through an auction.

    Crocodile tears.

K Seal rarely works, if it does it'll be for a few weeks.

    Experience talking.

Experience talking for me too. As the car is otherwise running fine, its likely that it will work for a reasonable period of time - hopefully enough for the O/P to get value from it - and at just a few pounds its worth a try?

well as ive said before i havent mugged a car into auction in nearly 20 years but auctions should be trade only
so caveat umpar to any fool that thinks they can save a dolla

doesnt help the OP though who bought a lemon from a private seller and i will repeat if they had bought from an established local dealer this car would never have been sold or if it did slip through the net they would be sorting it
frankly i just think you have a beef against the motor trade because they nicked your fluffy dice in 1976

to OP think carefully and slowly which direction you want to go next because pewgots of this age are litteraly rubbish,i could say that i was in newcastle a few weeks back and the only broken down cars i saw on the way up was 3 yes 3 different pewgot 206.s (seriously),one of these might have been your new purchase nearly
