New flat roof required. Anyone know rough price?

  • Would advise fit EPDM ROOF. As a firestone epdm approved installer, the benefits of epdm as opposed to felt are well worth the outlay, with roofs lasting in excess of 20 years. If the substrate is sound you would be looking at about £550.00 If needs reboarding add £27.5 plus vat per square metre

I usually charge £60 POUND A METRE FOR FLAT ROOFING BUT DONT USE FELT OR FIRESTONE RUBBER . I ONLY USE GRP SYTEM .FELT ROTS RUBBER PERISHES AND CAN BE BROKEN DOWN BY SUN RAYS +PENTIRATED BY CAT CLAWS WINDOW CLEANERS ECT

Where window cleaners and access is required, I fit walk pads to prevent damage to the rubber. I have replaced as many fiberglass roofs as felt roofs this year due to fibreglass failing....reckon epdm is better to each their own I guess

That will be down to the poor standard of fitment then as I have been called out to repair loads due to cowboys and undesirables ripping people off. Its shocking what some people will do and get away with to make a few quid....... I don't know how they sleep at night !

i don't know how i came across this old thread... i don't think epdm is used much anymore, at least in the states. the guy who got the 250 pound hot tar roof probably got a deal. the only way to really mess one up is if you don't use enough layers of felt, don't strip the gravel stop in correctly, or use dirty gravel. you probably won't ever have to replace something like that in your lifetime.

edit: mod bit isn't bad either. thicker and more puncture-resistant than either epdm or pvc/tpo. it's basically stuck down and overlapped with plastic roof cement over a layer of felt. pvc looks the best if that's an issue, but it's pricey and less durable than the alternatives. still beats epdm.
