Yes I use roboform regularly but will work through everything else. I'll post once completed.
Thanks again.0 -
If it's getting very hot and shutting down I'd be worried about that your fan is broken. That's the first thing I'd check.
Saw this loads of times when I did support for a laptop company. They can go after a year if you use the laptop a lot especially in conditions that require the fan on a lot.0 -
Well, I think I managed to figure out most of that and it seems to be quicker now.
I have a message coming up when I log in saying I have made changes to the system startup and something about starting in normal mode to restore settings, should I ignore this?

I have left roboform on, and have just spotted I missed removing another quicktime so will do that now.
My commit Charge is now saying 318436, peak 2503808 does that sound ok?
Think I had an extra digit in there!!!!
Thanks0 -
more than likely the fan vent is blocked with a furry slug, in extreme cases it will be that big it will prevent the fan from spinning - it means taking the fan housing apart to remove it and clean it out. How easy? depends on the model of laptop..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Re the laptop getting hot, I usually have it on my lap so it possibly might be the vents. I can hear the fan.
Need to find a v small screwdriver by the looks of it. It's a HP Pavillion dv4000 so I have no idea!!0 -
click the don't show this again to the msconfig prompt
the peak commit is massive - are you sure that isn't the limit?, have you rebooted since making changes?
disable using msconfig

create an icon for roboform, so you can use it when you need to, rather than have it running all the time
check you aren't blocking vents up with your lap, some HP's are known for overheating which graphics card is it?!!
> . !!!! ----> .0 -
I restarted the pc is that the same?
Will follow your instructons now.0 -
you should never use a laptop on your lap (or cushion, duvet, carpet, etc.) but on a hard flat surface. If wanting it on your lap, get a big enough book, put lappy on the book on a cushion on your lap. The HP dv series can contain the defective nvidia graphics chip, which can overheat on it's own without any help from furry slugs

Not sure which graphics card it is, I think it is the original one that came with the laptop.
WIll still try and see if it need a bit of a clean.
Ok have now done the last few things I think and the figures are
commit total 266980
peak 293836
It is saying it has found new hardware on opening which I have ignored, not sure what that is .0
