Hi, I parked in a local high street today on a single yellow line and got a ticket:o
Just wondered though, the street in question is regularly parked along on a Sunday. I did look for a restrictions sign but couldn't see one, I wrongly assumed that because it's a Bank Holiday,Sunday parking ules would apply?
I will pay the fine but was just wondering what the legal stance is?
Thanks;)

I am sorry to say that the restrictions probably do apply. Unless stated to the contrary somewhere else, a Bank Holiday monday will be no different to an ordinary Monday. You could try posting the ticket up on pepidoo to see if there is any fault with it though, always worth a look.
You don't say where it was, but some council tickets are routinely faulty and thus invalid.0 -
Post your ticket and photos of signs and lines on to pepipoo, and someone will be along with advice:

I don't there were signs on the side of the road where I was parked. There may have been some further along on the other side?
There were lots of other cars parked where I was and some parked there without tickets when I got back to my car. Should I take apic of the street without the signs?
ETA - can I ask how some tickets are routinely faulty?0 -
If you mean me, lol, the tickets have to comply with strict rules regarding wording and their completion. Some do not and there are councils who still issue them hoping no-one notices and will pay up anyway. That's why the guys on pepidoo can help.
It's a bit of a long shot, truthfully. Most are legal.0 -
Just wondered, if I appeal how do I stand with the 50% off the charge if it's paid within 14 days? (It's a local authority one).
I'll probably just pay it but am pretty sure there were no signs up. Can the LA just drag their heals on the appeal so I'll have to pay in full anyway?
Thanks.0 -
If there are no signs supporting a SYL, then it must be in a controlled zone. If you give the location, we can take a look on street view.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

They are supposed to "freeze" the time if you make an "informal" challenge to them. But the chances of them upholding it unless you have a cast-iron case are pretty much non-existent.
If you go through the proper appeal process you lose your right to the discount. That's why we say post it up on pepidoo to see if there's any loopholes. If there are not, then you may consider paying the discounted rate. Unfortunately councils are far better at enforcing payment than the private companies..
Or take heed of the post above mine.0 -
Thanks, the location was outside Adams Carpet Shop, Brierley Hill High Street, West Midlands. I was visiting Home Bargains on the other side of the road. Is a controlled zone the same as a restricted street during prescribed hours (what the ticket says) sorry to sound so blond.:o
If there were any signs then both myself and my daughter missed them.0 -
There is no lamp post for some distance outside Adam's carpet shop, but if you walk to the next one along (outside Zak's place) there is a post with a no waiting sign. The times aren't quite clear on the photo, but there don't appear to be any days of operation. This means the restrictions are in force every day between those times.0

Okay, I think I might appeal. I've retraced my steps and have found that there is not a sign stating I was entering a CPZ, the lines along the High Street vary from double yellow, zig zags and single yellow. Am I right in thinking that there should have been a sign stating the limitations of the SYL in the absence of a CPZ notice?
The sign seen further down the road I believe relates to the road markings at that part of the road? Will try and go and get a photograph later.
Thanks for your help.0
