Why not try again at the deaf centre? Or you could contact NDCS and ask them to put you in touch with another family that is local to you.

My son's mould has a picture of a German shepherd in - we used to have one when he was young :)

Yeah, it's a nice place Kingfisherblue (by UK standards), but are there any jobs up there? By which I mean professional jobs that pay £50K plus. From what I gather, everyone either works in retail, for "LV" (that building society with the annoying adverts) or is on the dole/disability allowance/works as a "carer"/some other benefit scam.

I think you generalisation is wrong and Britain is littered with Benifit cheats in all areas (more so where you are than most)FACT but funnily Merseyside has been tagged and we have big enough shoulders to laugh it off . OP didnt ask for 50k salarys but i am doing ok thanks & my comfy 3 bed semi in a decent area of Merseyside costs a quarter of what your paying.& Crime is around a half . Sorry to burst your bubble but dont let fact get in the way of a good joke.

The rent for our 2 bed terrace is £300pm, it is a bit lower than the market value because we've been here for about 10 years and the landlord has only put the rent up £5 a week in all that time. :D

I live midway between Newcastle and Durham, both a quick easy commute so there's the opportunity to earn a decent wage, although not London wages. But then we don't have London costs. There's some expensive areas in the North-East but there's also some very reasonable areas too.

I've just had a look on the local estate agent's site and there's a 3 bed detached new build across the road from me for £495pm. There's also a one bedroom flat in the next street to me (a terraced house like mine but converted into 2 flats) and they want £325pm! I hope my landlord doesn't see it and realise he could be charging us a lot more for our 2 bed house. :o

Do you really think it's feasible for the OP to live in Texas? How do you propose she does it?

I agree with Seany re. Norfolk. My parents live about 10 miles outside of Norwich and it's reasonable there, the people are lovely and it's a nice place to raise children.

I think that they were referring to my post not the OP :)

Think before you move any where, Its very easy to see the past through rose tinted spec's.
I was born and bred in south London but moved to the midlands which I hated and always wanted to go back "home", never could have afforded to. I now live in Devon(Torbay) and like living here but I miss my family (used to seeing daughter 2/3 times a week) and if it wans't for my partner I would go back to the Midlands.
Treat other's how you like to be treated.

    Harry born 23/09/2008
New baby grandson, Louie born 28/06/2012,
Proud nanny to two beautiful boys :j
And now I have the joy of having my foster granddaughter becoming my real granddaughter. Can't ask for anything better

    UPDATE,
As of today 180919. my granddaughter is now my official granddaughter, adoption finally granted

Another one for North Norfolk here.I moved here 11 years ago from Hertfordshire and working at Heathrow !

I would never go back ...Downside living here is you need to drive miles to go anywhere (25 miles from Norwich) and also as mentioned before the job situation all Holiday work and Care homes. My DH works in Kent and comes home every 2 weeks so not ideal.

I live in a small village with no neighbours cant see another house from mine and 20 acres of land.I sold my 3 bed terraced house in Herts and purchased this for £7,000 less than I sold for.

More expensive here now but will be taken out of my house in a box :D As I love living here :T

Debt free and Mortgage free thank you to all for your encouragement and advice

Another vote for Lincolnshire here :) (or north norfolk for that matter)

Next door is a rented 3 bed (nice too) at £550 pm. Only thing with lincs is that the infrastructure is rubbish (all windy roads and loads of tractors) and there isn't much job choice (OH works in IT - if he was ever made redundant we would have to relocate).

Pace of life is definitely on the slower side too ;)

Thank you everyone for your replies, I just wanted to see what the rest of the country is like really, I was born in Swindon really wish my family hadn't moved from there really as my fondest memories are from when we lived there, we then moved to Wales my dads mum and dad and a brother moved there so I think the idea was he could be close to them but sadly my Grand parents both died and my uncle moved away, then we moved to North Devon to be close to my mums parents but things didn't work out really, my mum and dad split up and my dad hasn't been to well in recent years, on the upside I have a husband and 2 small boys which wouldn't have happened if I didn't live here but I can't see me wanting to live in Devon forever. There isn't much in the way of employment this is probably the same for many parts of the country but things like water rates seem to be so high, we don't own a property we rent and at the moment live in a market town about 25mins from our work we have lived here almost a year but im not keen on it here, I don't know anyone and there is very little to do. I have often thought about moving out of England one day my Granddad on dads side was from Canada and I have an uncle that moved to N.Z but you need to have something to offer to get into another country and sadly I don't lol

Where abouts in north devon do you live? If you miss Swindon, why not move back there? I miss Swindon (OH lived there when we first started Dating but we moved back to Barnstaple to be closer to the parents.) There was so much more to do than here. Swindon has such a bad rep but I never knew why while living there. When the kids are a little older, I'm hoping to move back to Swindon.

I currently live in Swindon and tbh, I don't think it's that bad. It's quite fashionable to criticise it but I've lived in worse places and paid more - it's cheapish compared to places like Reading, Oxford and Bristol, workwise it's not *too* bad (and you can always commute to places like Reading/Bristol if you need to) and living wise, it's a bit boring but again, it's not that bad. I don't have kids but I've heard that there are some good schools (Commonweal up in Old Town is supposed to be a very good Secondary).

Like anywhere it has its problems. The town centre is really suffering and it's pretty dire at the moment, the town council is useless and is intent on destroying what bit of history there is (although there is some investment in the town centre which should make it better ...), there's a lot of nimbyism whenever there's new building mentioned and like anywhere, there are some parts of town that you really wouldn't want to live in (trick is to avoid anywhere that starts with a P). It's stupidly expensive to commute to London and it does suffer a bit from that small town mentality, but there are some decent facilites (cinemas, swimming pools, sports centres), lots of green spaces and housing can be reasonably cheap. There are also some lovely little villages in the wider area. Nobody could really understand why we moved to Swindon but once we explain (we couldn't afford anything closer to London!) and show them the town, then they agree that it's really not a bad place.
