I received a letter from Santander a month ago saying that I need to contact them urgently as i had an unarranged overdraft on my account of £110. I hadn't used this account for some time and had received nothing prior to this letter. I wrote to them asking why I was overdrawn and explained that I hadn't used the account.…

I would send a formal complaint in writing that you never received any letters about the charges and go from there. Take to the FOS if they reject. As long as they had an address and\or phone number there is no reason not to tell you at the first problem.
