Whos to say they wont? Just because they have not done it before does not mean a company hasnt changed its policys. After all companys are having to due to none payment rise

Because of the costs involved and the number of cases each year they have, they can't add charges for these people to call, they can't demand that people make arrangements to be there. All they do is send threatograms. If by chance they do turn up without your authorisation there is nothing they can do.

I am not saying by the way not to deal with this, the OP should do everything in writing, and not to speak to agents that will probably not turn up, people on the phone or with branch staff unless it's in writing also.
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

Can't be much help regarding the visit but could it be that you are overdrawn through charges on the account? I had this problem with Santander as the type of account I had I was supposed to pay in a certain amount per month so when I stopped using the account I forgot about this and they charged me every month I didn't pay in enough money which led to me being £150 overdrawn for not using the account. Hope this makes sense.
All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

  • Am I missing something here? No paper trail? Go into the branch and ask for a written statement including all transactions. Then query them.

Because stuff on phone calls can be denied, its best to get everything in writing when dealing with companies like Santander or their ilk!

In this case the OP is asking for information, not agreement to halt interest, pay back charges, write off the debt etc. Once the bank has explained why the account has gone overdrawn, maybe given a list of transactions which occurred over the last year, then the OP can ask for confirmation in writing and also put in writing any requests / demands as a result of getting the information. People interpret (and give) the advice not to talk on the phone to lenders too literally, and sometimes to their detriment in not sorting out situations sooner.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

Sorry but I disagree, the bank in this case must supply in writing their breakdown of charges, the OP has asked for this in writing already and has been ignored already ! Going in the phone to them is not the way to go as its likely a DCA trying to enforce this as the home visit junk is normally them.

The advice is to ask for everything in writing, if the OP goes via phone, where is the evidence that what has been said on that call ? At the bank or DCA who can conveniently can mislay it all.

Sounds like a pretty standard template scare letter, chances of them turning up at your house for that amount is 0-0.000001.
The fact is this type of letter does nothing but scare the customer into paying what they cant afford or in some cases they do something worse.
Again keep all letters in a folder, keep copies of everything you send along with the slip.
They cant do much without going to court and I doubt they will for that amount, more so given that its 2/3 charges + if they do you have all these letters.

That's why I said to get confirmation of the info in writing - at the moment they have no information, in writing or verbally, if they are really keen to get the info then there is nothing to lose (in this case) by asking for it over the phone - as long as they don't act on it without getting confirmation.

I have spoken to Santander today as Im petrified of somone turning up at my door. My balance was 0.00 as i didnt use the account. I had an old direct debit that i forgot about that was presented in dec for £22. It was returned (no funds as i wasnt using the account). I was charged £25. They presented again and anopther £25 charge. This happened 4 times so i was then £100 overdrawn. Santander then charged me for being overdrawn...Santander eventually cnacelled the direct debit in March and I now owe £341 - all in charges. Im devastated. Is there anything i can do? Santander never contacted me to warn me of what was happening on my account - the first i know is when i get this letter telling me im overdrawn. Im literally in tears here. I have no way of paying this back and cant believe that a £22 direct debit has resulted in over £300 of fees. Please please help

The first question I would ask is where have the letters gone informing you that dd's were being bounced. These would be automatically sent out by the system - did you recieve them - if not why not ? You're getting letters now. These days Santander are not known for their efficient service so there is a possibility soemthing went wrong soemwhere.

Write to them asking for copies (it is now an appropriate time to write) and see what comes back. If they can't prove they have sent anything out to you then you have a very good case to get the fees and charges waived - if not all of them at least a good proportion. I would also demonstrate that you are keen to resolve the situation and agree to make token payments whilst waiting (give them a deadline so it's not open ended). Perhaps £5 per month (really whatever you are comfortable with).

Communication though is key here - please don't bury your head in the sand and hope it goes away.

    Good luck.

Just a quick note to dispel a few myths.

Firstly Santander can very easily send out a freelance 'agent' to visit the OP's home with a view to resolving the problem. The fee used to be about £75 which certainly can be added to the balance. These people are not doorstep collectors like Moorcroft but people who are there to find out what the problem is a agree a way forward. There a quite a few companies that offer this service with national networks of agents.

Secondly - the golden rule is just wrong. As Redpete suggested people take the advice far too literally. I agree that everything should be confirmed in writing but to just blanket 'never ever call' is just ridiculous. This is a great example of where the Op called, found out what the problem was immediately and prevented a potential £75 charge being added to thier balance.
