Planting fruit bushes

jim - I must confess, I've never heard of planting raspberry canes together in one hole - unless this is a temporary planting instruction until they can go in a permanent position. They're normally planted separately, about 12 inches apart. If you're planning that their ultimate place should be in your allotment, rather than risking having to dig them up and completely replant them when they're in full growth, you could get some really heavy duty polythene bags (the sort compost comes in), and plant them singly in them, allowing a minimum of 8" inches depth of soil in each bag covering the roots. Then when you're ready to replant you can simply just split the bags open and plant each one in a ready prepared hole. They will be starting to sprout any time now so be sure you keep them well watered.0
