The first one looks like it's shared ownership.0

Wow, great find Bekkki1 - I don't know the area at all but that looks like a lot of house for the money!
OP, Just out of interest, are you looking to live in the property yourself or is this intended as a BTL?0 -
It's for myself.0

I spoke to some friends about moving to Stoke, about how there's some nice looking houses for not much money and some say it's cheap because Stoke isn't a nice area to live in, ie. it's rough.
I don't know much about Stoke, is this correct? Are there any areas that are ok but still reasonably priced?0 -
This is much nicer and isnt actually in Meir

That house looks nice.
What does it say on that sign on the patio door in picture 4 though? 'Danger Deep Water' or something?! :huh:0 -

It's a repo. The air fresheners are the give away.
The sign is just elf n'safety gone mad. It relates to the pond (with heron) which you can see on the left of picture 10.
Mind how you go.

I don't know where they buy 'em, but every repo seems to have the same ones, whether they need them or not. It's a Twilight Zone thing....:eek:0 -
Regarding the apartment in the opening post:
Surprised to see this here, I lived in the building just next to that for 18 months up until April 1st (actually it's still my flat until tomorrow, heh).
The reason it's so cheap is because of the area. Stafford is a nice place, but it is very noisy at night, you're surrounded by pubs and clubs. It's fine for young adults that don't care about noise, but if you want piece and quiet at night, forget it.
They opened a brand new bar / club literally 15 metres from the front door of the Mill Bank building and that gets very noisy, here's a map I made for you to illustrate the problem:
(google maps is years out of date so the buildings don't exist as they were built in ~2007 and ~2009, but you can see the vacant areas)
red = the building that apartment is in
blue = the building I lived in
green = a pub / bar / place drunk people go
(I only circled the most prominent and unlabelled ones, the place labelled "the picture house" is also a bar, as is "the grapes" and just out of shot is another bar)
As you can see they are everywhere. If you were in the mill bank building and stepped out of the main door you would be ~3 metres from the door into a pub (the building next door), then across the street (15 metres max) is a brand new development: posthouse stafford which is an absolutely beautiful building inside and out, but very noisy. A further good illustration of the problem with drunk people: I've walked past the door on my way to mcdonalds at night and people have vomited next to the door (and I assume urinated too).
I was considering purchasing that apartment you linked, but the noise there and drunk people is too much for me. Excellent deal if you're a drinking student type, otherwise not so much.
Stafford is a wonderful town (I guess I sort of miss it, I'm by the sea now) and Victoria park is great (also the train station is way less than 1km from that building, it's a 2 minute walk max) but I wouldn't want to live in that apartment with how much the town is about clubs now. Stafford station is pretty great, 1 hour to london, 1 hour to manchester, Stafford is an ideal location to live, just not in the town centre
There are some nice (and cheap) houses further out.
Also when I first looked back in 2010 when I was moving into my new apartment there that place was on the market, that's almost 20 months ago now, they must have tenants in there, although it is/was owned by Knight Frank so I'm sure they have money to burn.0 -
I dont think its a Repo, as the fire and taps arent taped up as usually happens. Its probably to warn in case of children running outside whilst viewing the property.
With regards to nice areas to live there are lots, im in Weston Coyney and its great here, before that I lived in Fenton and that is rough, Fenpark is nice though.
Other good areas - Meir Hay, Parkhall, Meir Park, Meir Heath, Baddley Green, Milton, Sneyd Green, Longton (certain areas) Hartshill, Penkhull, Basford, Wolstanton, Lightwood road area.
I think part of the main problem is areas look rough due to closed business' and houses being knocked down, but its gradually getting better. I moved here 6 years ago and there has been lots of change.0
