No dial tone but broadband is OK

I reported no dial tone (on all handsets) to provider BT and they emailed back saying fault is within the BT network (with some standard message about being fixed within 3 working days). BT broadband down same copper wire is perfectly normal, so is it absolutely certain there is nothing wrong with my internal wiring?

It is possible for internal fault to cause no dial tone and the broadband still work. But if BT say it’s on their equipment I would assume they have tested it and it is. If you ring number what do you get.

Could be in the exchange before the broadband circuits join the main phone line,it's very common for the broadband to still work without phone service. You need to remove the faceplate from the NTE5 master socket & plug a different corded phone into the test socket on the main part & try then,.only that will rule out an internal wire fault.

I should do this but put it off. Ever since I installed the new BT faceplate for increased speed it's a nightmare stuffing all the wires back in without breaking something.

That could be a fault on your equipment as Spike said remove faceplate and preferably plug in a corded phone. If you haven’t got a spare corded phone ring again with face plate removed and if you get ringing tone the fault is probably on your equipment or internal wiring.

    Hi Goldenyears,

It sounds like they have identified the fault on the network with them saying "fault is within the BT network" . You could always try the test socket to be sure it's not your internal wiring.

If you send me in your details using the link found in my profile, I'll made sure the fault progress correctly.

    Thanks

  • Landline back on today after 8 days. A real BT person called my mobile yesterday saying 200 metres of cable had been "damaged" whatever that means. I could see the Openreach guys working down the road today in three trucks.

    Attempted cable theft most likely.

    Hi Paddy

I have the same issue. No dial tone but internet OK. Have tried plugging phone directly to master socket and no dial tone either. Have been advised resolution may not be until 27/6/2012. Not good with mum's telephone linked lifeline not working.... Can you assist in progressing this any quicker please?
