High Street bank - Lost paperwork??

How likely?

Its part of a larger issue, but a branch of a well known high street bank have lost the entire file for a mortgage and mortgage drawdown from a few years ago?

Nothing left apparently - so if we query the amount drawn down, and they have no paperwork - what happens next?

Any thoughts welcome?

I assume you've received annual mortgage statements?

Yes, thats how it was discovered, I am deeply concerned about the missing file as the person who did this went to a different branch is another town seemingly on purpose.......
Seems nice and neat to me that this branch/persons within have then lost the file, wondered how likely it was for a brand to loose an entire file ???

What's missing from the file that's so important?

    The entire file!!!!
I want to see if it was altered from 20 to 40, or if indeed the application was blank before it was signed, i.e no sign on tampering.

Without prejudice and its my personal opinion, but something stinks here!

What would happen if we query and the bank has lost the file?

Depends what your issue is. Why you are only querying it now.

Many other things going on - this is part of a clean up on a monumental scale -that is not for an open forum.

Specifically here - what would happen if a bank is queried (either privately or via the Police) and have lost an entire application under query...

    :-)

Sorry to be blunt, but what are you on about?!

20 to 40 what? years, thousand pounds, monkeys?

Why would you sign a blank application form?

The solicitor has an obligation to talk through the mortgage offer prior to draw-down so any anomalies of amounts or terms would be highlighted here?

If you are looking for the old, no file no liability situation here you may as well give up now!

No requirement to keep entire files per se. As lenders process thousands of transactions a year. After some years have elapsed then becomes less ald less relevant. As the key issues are clearly visible to all parties.

No old liability - its not directly for me, it would seem a friend had an application form altered (potentially) and then post hidden thereafter for a period to prevent short term detection, that is the maximum I want to put on here - basic question, what if a person, or even the police request documentation and the bank has lost it?

    Sorry 20&40K
So I presume banks can lose paperwork with impunity then? or not?
