Morrisons petrol pay-at-pump weirdness

I have a barclaycard world mastercard (ex-Egg so 1% cashback) which has twice been rejected by my local morrisons pay-at-pump machines. It's not declined in the normal way, but says something like "only use in shop". I can then use my other Mastercard at the same pump immediately afterwards without any problem.
The barclaycard is never, ever rejected anywhere else. Anyone have an idea why it could be?
It's not a massive problem, but annoying as I'd much rather be getting my cashback given the amount I spend on petrol! Could it be that retailers get charged more for accepting these cashback cards and so morrisons are blocking them?

They can be charged more for some cards, but if they chose not to accept them then they wouldn't let you use it in the shop either.0

No, Morrisons will pay the same amount for any Mastercard, irrespective of whether the card issuer gives the customer cashback. They may pay different amounts for different card types, like Visa and AmEx. But it'll be the same for all cards of the same type
When you pre-authorise at a petrol pump the pump "reserves" a big chunk of money (Some offer the ability to chose how much) like £100, and then releases it after the delivery when the correct amount is charged. Barclaycard may not allow that on your card type, or might that amount be too much for your credit limit?Optimists see a glass half full
Pessimists see a glass half empty

I've had the same problem with Morrisons pay-at-pump machines rejecting credit cards. When it's happened, I've selected the pay-at-kiosk option, walked over to the kiosk and paid for the fuel with the same credit card with no problem at all. I've even mentioned this to the staff; they've just shrugged their shoulders and told me that the pay-at-pump machines are just, well 'weird' sometimes.0 -

Dont want to digress too much but 1% cashback - is that in form of actual credit into your account or is it like so many other, in the form of a voucher you can only spend at 'Spankys" in Guatamala and only against surfing goods, and only those that are not already on discountWhen will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?0 -

Not quite true - merchants pay a surcharge if you pay with a World MasterCard but they can't choose to not accept them if they accept regular MasterCards.
I expect the problem is that Morrisons haven't updated their systems with the new BIN range so the pump doesn't know what the card is and declines it. It won't be a Barclaycard problem - perhaps it's worth complaining to Morrisons?0 -

No, it's in actual cashback credited to your account once a year. The card isn't available for new customers though.0 -
Morrison's don't appear to have updated their pay at pump technology to recognise the new cards issued to replace Egg cards.0

my ex egg barclaycard also doesn't work at Morrisons pay at pump. don't know why. either pay with my Halifax clarity card (this pays £5 for £300 pm spend so I try to spend 300 onthe clarity and the rest on egg each month) or go in the kiosk. is annoying but can't be bothered with barclaycards terrible overseas call centre as they won't understand the question or be able to provide a sensible answer0

It isn't Barclaycard's fault - it's Morrisons you need to be talking to.0 -
