I'm in for basic essentials - so £25 this month for me. I had a shoulder operation on Tuesday :( (I am one-armed for 3-4 weeks) I pre-made 4 weeks worth of dinners and have frozen them (veggie spag bol, curry, casserole etc) so just have to buy lunch things this month, and milk, bread etc. Should be interesting.

I am inspired to join the challenge again this month! Aiming for £100 a week again. (2 adults, 3 children).

Failed miserably Jan and Feb, but I have learned a lot..........so here goes!

Day 2 - already spent nearly £50

Going to the market for veg tomorrow. (Must resist urge to buy trolley on wheels so I can carry more veg............deeply un-trendy!)

Must eat freezer contents instead of buying more stuff.

    Good Luck Everyone!:j

I did a quick shop last night - mostly veg.

I also weighed most of the food in my cupboards and fridge and wrote down how many portions there were of everything in an attempt to meal plan for the month. It was quite a revelation - there was alot more than I thought! I think as I'm trying to lose weight I should do more weighing of raw ingredients when I cook as I have realised I must be eating far more than I think I am

omg your good ive never thought about weighing anything

    Hi everyone

I'd like to join in. Up until 2 weeks ago I was visiting M&S at least 3 times per week and usually spending about £30 each time. I was also nipping to the garage or Mace several times per week again at £20-£30 per time. In all honesty I had no idea what I was spending on food.

I have now set myself a budget of £50 per week for food. This £50 is for all food. I have vouchers which will be used for toiletries and am getting stardrops tomorrow for cleaning.

What I've done this past 2 weeks is go to the butchers and buy all meat/chicken for the week and go to the greengrocers and buy all the fruit and veg for the week. I've been going to Tesco for the basics such as cereal etc and am totally avoiding M&S.

    Hi all,

Would you mind if I joined in this month? I currently have no real idea what we spend on food (I know its a ridiculous amount!!)

Anyway, I'm going to say the budget for the month is £200. A lot higher than I eventually want it to be, but I guess I have to start somewhere.

So, I went shopping on Tuesday/Wednesday and spent:

    Somerfield - £22.22
    Morrisons - £23.81
    Tesco - £42.80
    £88.83

Hopefully, this should last at least 2 weeks. Hopefully :)

Feb was my first mnth and I went over my £260 budget set by £19. This did include 2 Birthday meals at home, friends for dinner and cakes/bun sfor 45 peopl at work so I'm hopeful that March should be more successful(even though I'm a bit worried that my freezer is now a lot emptier).

But it's fantastic to have only spent £279 when we usually spend going on for £500, for 2 Adults, 2 teenagers, 1 cat and exta teenager at weekends.

This month so far: Tesco (Online) - £84.76, Tesco Wine - £47.90 (ncl 20% Disc, 500 extra points and Free delivery), and a Veg Box £14.80.

Good Luck to everyone and thanks for all the tips.

  • I am in again. Failed miserably last month but I am positive I still spent less than I usually do. Have reset my budget at £250 as this is a 5 week month for me and any less would be unrealistic. Good luck everyone. xx

Well, I did my first shop of the month today. Spent £18 in Morrisons, and £28 at local butcher - got enough meat to last all month for slow cooker eat-and-freeze meals and also a free range chicken for a roast when my kids visit later in the month. My cupboards are pretty much stocked and I hope now that I won't need to buy much except fruit and veg and milk for the rest of the month :j

Incidentally I enquired in Morrisons' bakery whether they had any yeast going begging and the woman nearly snapped my head off and informed me 'we dont do that!' so there you have it from the horse's mouth, Morrisons = too mean to share!! :D I did get 4 bags of flour on bogof though.
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D
