Mum got Norton anti virus cd but when I attempted to install it it brings up the following message,
Norton Anti-virus setup
Setup has detected another Symantec firewall product, such as Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall. You must remove this program before you can finish installation. Click the Add/Remove Programs link to continue.
Launch Add/Remove Programs
Setup will now exit.
OK
I successfully removed Norton anti-virus by using the add/remove program feature, but I cannot get Norton Internet Security removed. Norton Internet Security is not showing on the add/remove program list. I found its location on the hard drive and attempted to remove it that way but I had no success either. Can someone please tell me how to get rid of it so I can get Norton anti virus 2007 installed?

For your info, recent tests by Computer Shopper magazine suggest that Norton (*spit*) was significantly less effective than most other AV products, including AVG which did very well. Probably too late to tell you this, but others may look in.......

If you're both on broadband, you could always set up a free logmein account at https://www.logmein.com, get your parents to log in to that account, add their computer, then you can log in and remote control their PC.
Alternatively, if your a bit PC savvy, try looking here https://www.ultravnc.com which gives you the ability to write your own remote login tool (look for UltraVNC "Single click")... then simply email it to your parents and get them to run it... install the server tool on your PC, and voila... remote access on demand! I use it with my parents all the time.
There is a new tool called PCHelpWare on the site which sounds good too, although I haven't actually used it.

I was surprised that Avast came out so low though in those tests. Luckily I use AVG anyway but the recommened best buy being Steganos completely threw me."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Thanks for letting me know. Broadband has only just become available in their area at a rate of 500kbps, better than dial up. They are waiting to be connected at the moment but when they are I think I'll definitely try this. Is it safe, can anyone else change the settings on their computer?0 -

Did you fully un-install AVG? Norton may simply have found quarantined viruses in the virus vault. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

I wasn't that surprised as I use Kaspersky and Steganos uses the same 'engine'. Friends and relatives of mine have installed Kaspersky after Norton has run out and it found a lot of infections; worrying if you consider that Norton are such a reputable and trusted company.
Avast was a bit of a shocker though.....
