It is also a good idea to get Lola neutered (if you are on a low income you may be able to get financial help from the Dogs Trust, the PDSA and the Blue Cross - but ask for help before this is done). Do you want to breed from her? With so many dogs needing homes, I would hope the answer is no. When she has her next season? Do you want un-neutered males fighting outside? (Apparently, a male dog can scent a female on heat upto 10 miles away - or something ridiculous like that). I remember a case of a Rhodesian Ridgeback attacking and injuring other male dogs ( I had to save the life of one, since he had this small dog around the throat), when a neighbour's dog was in season. Also, when your dog is in season, she cannot be walked anywhere without the risk of her being jumped on by another male dog and made pregnant, or a massive dog fight breaking out. (I know this sounds like most towns and cities in England at a weekend when, after a few beers the human males want a female to mate with!) I am not judging, I am sugggesting - your choice and good luck.

Thanks for your reply. Lola will 100% be spayed as soon as possible. My vet has said that they will not be able to spay her until 3 months after she finishes this season. She's been kept indoors and has only been let out the back garden (which is secure) to do her business. Can't wait for her season to finish so I can start walking her again, she's been climbing the walls for weeks bless her.

I should add that this is her very first season. The whole "you can spay them before their first season" vs "wait until she's had her first season" fiasco really had my head in a spin.
