Parking ticket issued on Easter Sunday

Hi guys,
I have just received a parking ticket for parking without showing a valid permit or visitor permit.
The reason being is that on the back of my visitor permits it states that visitor permits are not required on public holidays, and so I was under the assumption that today is a public holiday.
After googling whether today is a public holiday I have realised it isn't as today is a day where offices and banks would not normally open.
On what grounds can I appeal this? Firstly I think it is very misleading and also will it be best to say that today is a public holiday or admit that after I got the ticket I realised it wasn't exactly a 'public holiday'
Thanks
Danny

I forgot to mention that it was on a public road and the ticket was issued by Newham Council0

I think most people would have thought the same as you, as being part of a bank holiday Monday.
What does it actually say on the ticket, what did it say on the signs in the car park.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
It says on the back of the visitor parking permit
11) visitor permits are not required on public holidays
It wasnt in a car park just in a normal street, the council issued the ticket. There are signs saying Permit holders only along with the times of when it needs to be displayed ( I park here regularly with a visitor permit displayed)0 -
The fine was for not clearly display a valid permit or visitor permit0

Easter Sunday isn't a public holiday - as it's always (by definition) on a Sunday it doesn't need to be regarded as a holiday for the bulk of people whose normal working week is Monday - Friday.
