telewest bargain - better package for cheaper now that its owned by virgin!!!

Options
those who have ntl/telewest will know its recently been taken over by virgin

the other day i phoned up to downgrade my supreme package as i'm out of work, and i was told i could actually have the same package with 4 mb instead of my existing 2mb broadband for almost a tenner cheaper a month!!

so everyone should give them a call, i'm sure they will change everyone over at some point but you could save money right away!!!

i know its not technically a freebie, but i guess its free money!!

  • I was on the Virgin 3 for £35 deal - as a long term customer incredibly peed off with losing Sky One I had Sky installed Saturday and then rang BT to switch from Virgin to them and then spent 59 minutes on hold to speak to VM to cancel all my services.

However, Virgin are quite desperate to keep customers and they offered me a much better deal rather than lose my custom altogether - £19.95 gives me broadband and telephone but with free daily, evening and weekend NATIONAL calls and a discount on International and mobile calls and they let me keep the TV for free and are installing it next week in my bedroom free of charge.

So I am staying with VM and tv (M) phone and 2mb broadband and the free calls cost just £19.95 so even with my £15 a month Sky subscription I am quids in as I am saving approx £10 a month on calls (dont use the phone a lot) and I get more channels Sky One, Two and Three as well as the kiddie channels that are on the VM XL package which I could not afford.

So ring 150 tell them you want to leave and renegotiate your deal - my sister, her best friend and my parents have all done the same!

They dont want to lose you so give it a try!!!!!

You can still have Sky as well - they want you to connect your box to a landline as the box occasionally calls Sky. But VM assure me you can connect it to your VM line and Sky wont know the difference unless Sky can find out from BT which is unlikely as its against the data protection act.

If you dont connect your Sky box to a phone line within 8 weeks then Sky charge you a one off payment of £25 which is basically the installation fee that they waived but VM have said that if I do get charged this they will pay half of it!

I signed up with ntl (again) just before Virgin took over and i'm paying #24.99 for 2mb broadband and phone, but the phone does not include cheap international calls. Would I be able to threaten to leave and get a cheaper deal do you think, or do i have to be with them for 12 months first?

We currently have sky freeview as the last time we were with ntl and had the tv, the tv was off more times than it was on. It may be better now that it's virgin though.

I heard that one of our friends had phoned Telewest threatening to move over to sky and they were given a good deal too - they were on the basic TV package, base broadband and phone package; Telewest gave them the next TV bundle and upped the broadband speed for £10 per month less.

I phoned them and did they same - they put the TV package up from the base to the top bundle (from about 25 channels to 80-odd - no films or sport though), upped the Broadband to 4Mb and gave us free evening/weekend calls all for £16 less than we were previously paying. Not only that but, as we're all on Virgin Mobile as well, we've now got 1200 mins and 1200 texts per month for £40 all in (300 of each on four phones).

What SKY have done with Virgin is deplorable. But I'm not bitter - can't get into Lost anyway...

I think of it more as what Virgin have done to Virgin customers - never once were we asked if we wanted to pay an extra 93p a month to keep the channels...I for one would have paid, and it would save all the hassle of haggling with parents to get sky!

All you guys who have Cable BB., is it any good? Is the speed faster, or more stable than the phone line? Do you actually get the 2mb/4mb speeds?

I am presently with Virgin via the phone, and frankly it is !!!!!!.

I phoned up and said I wanted to cancel to try to get a better deal on Sunday. The rather apathetic retentive guy offered me nowt! I am on the 3 for £29 package (2mb bb, tv and phone free wkend calls). I asked him how much just 2mb bb would be and he quoted £18/month. I told him to carry on with the cancellation in that case. I can get it for £15/month by signing up again on their website....and other people on here have it for 9.99/month ....what a numpty! I phoned up retentives again today "to double check my cancellation date" hoping that they person on the other end would say "what can we do to keep you", but all I got was a "your cancellation date is 2 April".....

Is there anyone here who has ever had a call back from NTL/Telewest during their cancellation period otherwise I will have to eat my words and cancel my cancellation. I really want to keep just the BB, so I can VoIP (bye bye telewest phone) and get a dish (for the free channels) and cut my outgoings by a third!
  • I emailed Virgin 2 weeks ago asking what they would offer to retain my custom as my phone / internet provider, as for a basic landline that is never used, and the top broadband package I pay £40. I got an automated email to say I would be contacted within 48 hours.

10 days later I got a seconde email to say "Thankyou for contacting us, we will be getting in touch shortly" or words to those effect. Midly annoyed, I replied back with "Please don't rush, after all, it's not like I'm going anywhere is it?!"

I've had no joy even getting in touch over the phone either, and until this Sky 1 thing I was willing ot move the tv to them too, now I'll stick with Sky for sure!

I rang up Virgin Media to cancel my services yesterday, but ended up with a better deal.

I have been with Telewest - Virgin for the past 2 years and threfore not in any contract. I was paying £25 a month for 4Mb Broadband, £11 for telephone with free basic channels (which now no longer includes sky channels).

I am now taking 4mb Broadband, telephone (with free evening and weekend calls), free TV (similar to freeview but at least I don't have to buy a freeview box) and caller display (offered free of charge). This package costs me £32.50 a month.

The internet connection is great; having tried various other providers in my time and being an IT professional I would certainly recommend this service.

The telephone is average, but with having the caller display service included free of charge (normally £1.75 a month), it does add benefit to staying with Virgin.

The TV package means I still cannot watch Sky One or Sky Sports News, and now Bravo and UK Living have been removed - although I an not a big watcher of TV myself.

I am happy to stick with this for the time being, and compared to BT's charges of £27 for broadband equivalent + £10.75 telephone and £1.50 caller display + cost of freeview box purchase, my package seems OK to me.

I have been with virgin for over 4 years now and only recently been offered 4mb broadband L tv and line rental that includes weekends all for £30.50 which includes non direct debit fee do you think i could phone them and ask for a better deal as my OH is going mad that his beloved sky sports news is no longer on and i can't watch my lost.

I emailed telewest about cost of BB Vs BT broadband they promised to reduce price to £14:50 this has not happened because Virgin took over so watch your bills when they arrive to make sure you are getting what they promised and try to get it in writing if poss.

Also if Virgin were not so tight and wanted to rule the media world (or just the world) then all the "lost" sky channels would still be on air.
