Am I the only one who is finding the excitement over this a bit odd?

Shouldn't features like this be there already, and be available via the online banking interface directly?

A few other 'basics' would be:

    - Show what amounts are going to be leaving your account, rather than what last left

    - Rename accounts

    - Instantly transfer between accounts, rather than taking multiple steps

    - Change standing order amounts instantly without having to put a thinly disguised request in

Having no wish to use the phone banking side of things, I always find FD a bit backward.

Nail. On. The. Head. I opened my first current account with them back in 1997 and a few years later their internet banking appeared. It was pretty good for 2000 and but when i re-joined them last year their internet banking has hardly changed...same garish colours (like looking at a zebra constantly ) cannot delete old payees and overall very clunky. However the good news is that their internet banking will be re-vamped sometime in 2013...that's according to their twitter team:T

    Second time of asking! .....

Thank you for your message dated 10-Apr-2012 regarding your request to delete payment destinations.

The facility to delete beneficiaries is not available within Internet Banking. If you would like to remove a particular beneficiary, please call on us 08 456 100 100 so that we can discuss your requirements further.

Please note that if a payment destination remains unused for 13 months, it is automatically deleted from the system.

As they're still denying all knowledge, it might be an idea to send them another message pointing out that they can and also copy and paste the twitter link from mrmajika's post to remind them! I did and that seemed to work.

    Good luck

I agree. For a bank with excellent telephone banking, great rates and top rated customer service their online banking facility is appalling. It really lets them down.

Oh dear i knew it was too good to be true...after all i've been asking them since 2001 to let their customers delete old payees:rotfl: So much for their 'excellent' customer service when they can't even be bothered to check with their twitter team! Have a feeling the (automated?) message below was sent from HSBC's operations centre in India. Might have to
    call them for clarification.
    Dear Sir,
According to this twitter post by First Direct, you are now able to delete old payees:
    https://twitter.com/#!/firstdirecthelp/status/188065268789022721

Therefore please delete "xxx", "xxx", "xxx", "xxx", "xxx" from my list of payees. If you somehow think its still not possible to delete old payees, then please get in touch with the member of staff who posted the above tweet and get them to clarify the current situation.
    Kind Regards
    Mr frogmella

    Re: Deleting beneficiaries

Thank you for your message dated 12-Apr-2012 regarding the above.

At present, we do not have the facility to delete payment destinations. However, we are able to place the words 'DO NOT USE' against specific beneficiaries, which will help prevent you selecting that payment in future. You may contact us if you wish to place the above instruction on any payment destination. Please be aware, if a payment destination is not used for 13 months, it will be automatically deleted from the system.

Please contact us if you require anything further.

    Regards

    Banking Solutions

In other words, you can make payments to a 'DO NOT USE' payee. I can confirm from experience that IS what will happen.
Please be aware, if a payment destination is not used for 13 months, it will be automatically deleted from the system.
This marks FD out for extra special criticism: Firstly, why? No other bank I am aware of will do this [they would be able to, they're just not that random] . And secondly, without warning? Isn't that just how you'd go about upsetting the customer who thinks you walk on water?
Which bank offers the best online banking service?
Nationwide, IME. They are not perfect but I would give them about 85% and FD only about 70%
.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam

I phoned Customer Services (08456 100100) earlier today and deleted 4 old payment destinations from my account. Very straightforward and all dealt with in a couple of minutes. My payments list had been updated when I logged in a few minutes later.
