My other half used to work in the home shopping department and his manager told him there was going to be an investigation because a member of staff had substituted tampons with mayonaise!!

    at least it wasn't ketchup!

I once ordered a red pepper because I was going to make fajitas. It was substituted with an orange! When I commented to the driver that I wanted to return the orange, he told me that someone else had ordered potatoes and the shopper substituted them with Quality Street. Figure that one out :rotfl:

Is it really up to the pickers/personal shoppers to umm and arr over a substitute product??

Ocado told me they use a computer program to list alternatives and that would choose a different flavour say for cat food and say a different brand for jam if your original selection was o.o.s

I suppose the computer can be programmed wrongly

oh I understand your point completely - I just think the operator's comment was really rude!

I dont disagree there, some shoppers just dont use common sense,

We're not meant to spend ages deciding what product to offer as a sub, we are to choose the best alternative we can based on price and quality.

I've had the same today - doing a big lunch tomorrow, had the order placed for 3 weeks ( ocado) , a nice 3kg piece of organic pork in there and it doesn't turn up - out of stock! I also ordered chocolate mini eggs to put on top of a dessert - no eggs or sustitution - what supermarket chain doesn't have chocolate mini eggs the day before easter!

I would say they are less likely to have Easter eggs in the day before Easter as there is a chance they have sold out. They will not want to be stuck with large quantities left after Easter

Ocado is different because it doesn't work like a normal supermarket. Almost the whole process is automated, the things get sent down to the packers on conveyor belts. So the computer has to make all the decisions really.

For Tesco/ASDA, the picker is going around the shelves. They probably think it is more effective to let the picker decide.

I think it really depends on the store and picker you get. I order all over the place, some stores are faultless, some are abysmal. The worst I ever had was an Aylesbury click and collect where they told me they hadn't picked my order and I should go into the store and collect it myself, give it to customer services to check, then wait while they took it over to the C&C point for me!

The Dotcom manager thought this was totally acceptable and I was unreasonable complaining about it.

    Makes me dizzy just watching!!!

In what condition do ice-cream lollies (+ quick defrosting stuff) arrive? Does all the picking/packing/delivery affect the state of the frozen products?? (I normally stick to frozen chips only)
