Soakaway - Clay - Help

I'm having a new rear extension built (32 SqM)and I am advised that the rainwater from the new roof together with the rainwater from the exitsing roof (at the back), will have to go to a soakaway rather than into the drains (the rainwater from roof has previously gone into drain).

The builders have dug a soakaway - about 1m3 and partly filled with rubble. They have also now finished digging the footings.

I am very worried because it has rained and the rainwater has been sitting in the footings for 24 hours and not soaked away at all - I suspect that this is because of teh heavy clay soil. If a little bit of water doesnt drain away - why would it in the soakaway.

Can anyone offer any reassurance?

On uniform heavy clay - no.

My own experience is that it doesn't work. I had to cut through a concrete driveway to lay pipe to an existing rainwater drain in a similar situation.
