Depends what you want from a card.

    Credit building?

    0% on purchases?

What do you mean by a 'good' credit rating?

Your bank, aqua and vanquis. Other stuff will probably be out of your reach unless you have some history.

Hi thanks for reply, Yes its for credit building, as i found out bad credit history is better than none at all.

Basically i wanted to find out from others about their experiences and also decent offers out at the moment.

Your credit rating is a number made up by Equifax/Experian/CallCredit and is pretty worthless, each lender has their own criteria so there is no universal credit rating. It's more important that your credit file is "clean", no defaults, payments on time, good credit to income ratio etc.

I recently joined Metro Bank - I only had Vanquis at the time and sailed through their checks - they'll give you the opportunity to request your preferred limit - I knew that the effective agent floor limit was £5k so I asked for that - granted on the spot and left the store with my card in hand!

    The downsides

    - you have to be passing a Metro Bank store and they're all South East centric right now

    - you also have to take out a current account - but can be done at the same time and no requirement to salary fund it etc..
Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.

I would try Tesco credit card. Was one of my proper credit card (after my Natwest student CC).

You get points on the spending, so as long as you repay in full each month, it has advantages in points - can be spend on rewards 4 times in points or redeemed in Tesco shopping - you get 0.01 back for each £100, but it does accumulate over time. Even better if you shop there regularly as this compounds the points you can earn

Yea ditto with Tesco - they were my next card after Metro - good limits and they're not too picky

Thats great info guys thanks :)

Iv been looking around and Tesco does look like a good deal, points building etc. i hope to get air miles with mine as i like to travel and im sure iv seen some cards with an option to build air miles up.

Metro bank is also tempting as i have clear history. but im definitely doing my homework before applying. thanks for the great info once again.

Have to disagree here . Tesco are very choosey. They employ a very tough credit scoring system similar to Sainsbury's and Marks and Spencer.
You may question anything I say. Just be polite, otherwise you go straight on to my Ignore List, which funds a good old fashioned knees-up every Xmas. Cheers;)

    I agree very strict
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
