i dont want to cut anything out of my diet completely, as i'd hate to not be able to go out for a meal etc with friends!

What exercise do you all do as well?

I think not cutting out things completely is fine, although when I decided in the past that I was just going to reduce stuff like chocolate etc, it would always start to creep in more and more, and within weeks I would be back to square one..... the 'just one wont hurt' attitude tends to prevail with me, and if i was allowed just one occasionally it would go from weekly, to every few days to every day!!

I still eat 85% chocolate most days, but it has about 2% sugar, so its fine. And i dont feel deprived. I've never, ever been able to put down half a bar of dairymilk, and thats because of the addictive qualities of sugar!!

I did a 10 mile speed walk yesterday, the most exercise i have done in ages, i probably do about an hour a fortnight on average, mixing in walking, running badly and occasionally getting on a bike. Not great when I work in sport!

Your weight is based on 80% what you eat, 20% exercise, from what I remember reading.

Don't worry about slipping up and having a curry, just don't let it be the start of a downward spiral\!!

Thanks guys. Its interesting to hear about everyones weightloss and diets.
the most successful diet i ever went on was the south beach diet. It was very easy to stick to (at the time!), but i dont seem to be able to stick to anything that requires the elimination of any foods.

I find diets hard to stick to. The most successful diet was when I cut out booze, chocolate, crisps and eating out for an entire month. I lost 11lbs and found out the things I missed and the things I didn't miss. Apparently I found out I didn't miss crisps, but really missed chocolate! lol.

I've put the weight back on, as that was almost 2 years ago. I've started going gym since January. Kind of lagged this past month because of the long hours at work, but at least this job burns more calories than my office based job before.

My diet is 'don't go restaurants' and 'eat stir fry chicken and veg and salads for dinner and avoid the pizza.

I'm using my fitness pal to count calories. Mainly cut out wine mid-week and eat more fruit and veg, less take-aways and chose lower cal meals. Before i started my fitness pal i was roughly doing scottish slimmers. Since my heaviest i've lost 2.5st. My fitness pal is good for a long term diet as its cals in cals out, if you eat more, excercise more and vice versa. I've not eliminated anything as such but don't 'waste' my cals on big macs or anything. Tbh if i was more strict i would probably lose a lot more but i feel it keeps me on track. If i feel like im constantly hungry or missing out i end up giving up and putting it all back on. Certainly couldnt give up carbs! Just try to eat wholegrain pasta, rice, bread etc. Hopefully its more sustainable long term as its not a specific diet.

I recommend too - you can set realistic goals, use it online or on your phone (if you have net access) and most of all its FREE!

I've been very inactive during the days over the last 3 months but really cut down on food at the same time. I don't eat in the evenings now, and feel a lot better for it.

Also back at the gym now!

Not dieting as such now, but I use myfitnesspal.com to count calories, it has a huge database of the nutritional contain of foods, that's really all there is to 'dieting' after all. Simply eating less calories than your body needs to maintain it's current weight.
It's free to join and also has a message bored where people share recipes and motivation etc.
