Ikea Abstrakt kitchen - alternative white gloss plinth?

We like the look of the Ikea Abtrakt kitchen in high gloss white but have found out they don't do a matching plinth.
Do you think I could buy a white high gloss plinth from somewhere else - or would the colour not match?
Does anyone have any recommendations/ideas?
Thanks!

The chances are another plinth will be a different shade due to the finish, Ikea doors are foil wrapped so you would need to find someone that supplies there kitchens to get the perfect match and i dont think anyone does.
You could contrast the plinth or maybe look for someone that can do all0 -
Likely that anything not bought from Ikea will be a different shade.
I looked at buying one of their floating shelves then realised their 'white' isnt actually that white and was abvious when placed next to a painted white wall, this may or may not be the same for all of their whites but seems likely0 -
Ikea's plinth is 160mm high - whereas nearly everyone else's is 150mm.
I'd go for the plain white (I don't think it would be immediately obvious that it wasn't high gloss) - or you could have grey high gloss - or the stainless steel effect. What have they got on their display?I write blogs about kitchens ... and I design kitchens for a living ... I just love kitchens!0 -
Thanks Majjie, I forgot about the Ikea-only sizing.
TBH up until 7.30 this morning we were going for the yellow-white gloss which has a matching plinth, but we had last minute change or mind and decided on the white so I don't know what they used in the display. I'm going to order it on Monday so I'll check them then and use what they do (and then regret it almost immediately!).0 -
Well - unless the kitchen is huge - it wouldn't be the end of the world if you decided to change it. What is it - £10 a length, or £16 for the high gloss and steel effect?
If you're having steel appliances, the steel effect might be good.
The other thing you could do, depending on what lengths you need, is buy an extra tall cover panel (at 2170mm high) in white gloss and cut three strips from it at 160mm wide ... but that would be more expensive (and you'd need a sharp saw).I write blogs about kitchens ... and I design kitchens for a living ... I Don't know if its an option for you, but we have had an ikea kitchen for the past 9 yrs, and we opted to have stainless steel legs and no plinths, it makes the kitchen look bigger, (and you can hide lots of things under the units) I would definately do the same again when it comes times to replace. Just a thought for you!0

The worktop is oak (as is the floor) so stainless steel may not complement it. I think we'll go with the white and if it doesn't look good I'll try the cover panel approach or find a company who can match it.
The kitchen will be fitted before the wood flooring so we may be able to use a standard (non-Ikea) plinth anyway.
Thanks for the advice.0 -
If its the white gloss you are going for any while gloss wont be to far off. Youd notice it more if you had to buy a door from somehwere else but seeing as the plinth is at the bottom and set back from the doors i dont think it will notice that much. Another way could be to try and get a plinth in same colour as your oak floor giving it a floating effect0

You can buy that cheapo laminate sticky stuff for changing the appearance of kitchen units.... if it's only the plinths you could buy some laminate sticky stuff and compare colour... if it's close, you could do it that way...perhaps a bit faffy0

A white gloss plinth will show up every mark and be a pain to keep pristine looking.
Have you considered a plinth in the same colour as your kitchen accessories?I'm not that way reclined
Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!0
