Never mind. WD's website has a MyBook Pro W98SE driver for download so I conclude that it must support it after all despite their published specs.

Yes it does.
Works OK via Firewire on XP and USB 1.1 on W98SE.
It's a bit erratic about when it chooses to be automatically detected or powered down.
Plenty of scare stories on WD's support website (which they never seem to answer) so I'm slightly reluctant to put No. 1 data on it at the moment.
Kind of defeats the object but no-one here seems to have had a problem.0 -
