Halifax ISA Query?

Hello all,

This question has probably been asked millions of times before on here in some form but I am hoping someone can just give me a definate answer on my own circumstances. Basically, I have just opened an 'ISA saver online' with Halifax and paid in £100 so this is obviously going to be my 2012/2013 isa currently. However I did already have an ISA saver variable with Halifax and I now realise my error in that I should have just changed the type of that one and then started paying in for this year (i think?).

My first question is, would I be ok to now change the type of isa the ISA saver variable is to an ISA saver online for a better rate - assuming I do not pay into the one with savings from previous years?

Also, is this a sensible way to proceed, or is it easy or in any way beneficial for me to say call Halifax to transfer both isa amounts into my new isa without losing any of my ISA amount for 2012/2013 (all Halifax' online details relates to transferring in from an outside bank/isa provider) - I realise this is what will happen if I do this online myself!

Any help would be great.

You have opened a new Halifax Online ISA for 2012/2013 and paid in £100.

You can ask Halifax to transfer your old ISA into your new ISA by internal transfer.

Give them a ring.

Agree with this, its exactly what Im going to do tomorrow.

And when my fixed rate matures on 8th I'm going to transfer that into it too. I believe its 3%. We know we need some funds out this year so 3% is fine.

My OHs fixed rate matures on the 8th too and he will be transferring his to another 2 year fixed for 3.7%.

You have options. If you're comfortable with the rate on the 'saver online' (3%) then get Halifax to transfer the old one in to it. Or you could transfer the old one into a 2 year fix at 3.7% ..... or transfer it out of Halifax altogether?

But don't leave the old one as it is ...... as the rate will plunge on the anniversary of its opening.

Many thanks for all your replies.

I have just called Halifax and the lady advised that I would need to fill in the transfers form (even though this says from another provider) does this sound correct, or should they be able to do an internal transfer without the form filling by telephone?

If they should be able to do it, then I will call again, but i guess if i have to fill the form in, I have to fill the form in!
