Roughly how long does it take to get a blue badge?

Hi All
Just wanted to know other people's experience of how long it takes from applying to actually receiving a blue badge in the post.
I applied via my local Library for my Daughter and had my badge in just less than 3 weeks.
My friend who is in a very similar situation to me applied over 8 weeks ago and yesterday received a letter and a sealed envelope for her to take to her Son's Consultant (I never had to do this?) She called the relevant department and they said that's just how long it takes and after the Consultant has signed the letter, she should receive her badge 2 to 3 weeks later! So from the date of applying to actually getting the badge around 3 months! That seems a long wait when you are struggling, is this the norm for others and was I just lucky with my application?
Interested in hearing from others and how long they had to wait.
Thanks.

think my FIL had to wait about 3 - 4weeks to come through, not sure if they contacted his consultant about things.0

My wife's came after 3 weeks, but that was under the old scheme of self assessment.
Now they are tightening up and are employing OT's to review everything even down to having to have a medical.
Far too many blue Badges have been issued to too many chancers in the past.
6/8 weeks seems reasonable0 -

Thanks for that! I agree with things being tightened up, but I think the delay is them taking 8 weeks to send her a letter that she then has to take to the Consultant - not sure why that took 8 weeks!
6/8 weeks would be ok, she will have waited nearly 12 weeks if it comes when they have said. Just seems odd when my badge came so quickly.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

I applied and got turned down within 2 weeks. I appealed, had an OT assessment and then got granted one. It took about 6 weeks for the badge to come through.2019 Wins

Took me about a month in total and my application was made prior to knowing that I had qualified for HRM and HRC. I had to go to an interview with the council, a clause of which required me to 'walk' out of the office and down a corridor. I never got that far before she called it off having seen the pain I was in. I got the license acceptance email that same afternoon, the actual license came 4 days later. This is Leeds City Council and I am a full right leg amputee (and a lot of pelvis too).
I was pretty shocked to have even been dragged into the interview given my medical records but hey ho, I got the badge.0 -
i got mine in about 2 weeks, i dont claim sda/dla, i was sent a form from council to give to Dr, i filled in the form myself and got Dr to sign it whilst seeing him..BEST EVER WINS

Took us about two months, mainly due to the doctor insisting that they had faxed the medical stuffs to the council and the council insisting they had never received it. Ended up picking the forms up from the doctor myself and hand delivering it to the council, then another two weeks delay due to Christmas.
In the meantime lots of fun having to seek out end spaces to park in, or failing that, causing an obstruction by bringing the car far out enough that my partner could actually roll up to the door, unless there is a pick up bay to use.0 -
Two weeks. IIRC I had to send proof of my DLA Award which had just been re - awarded.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0

Some, indeed most renewals are DLA and automatically qualify under the desk based 'passported' rules and that's the way it should be, this group are usually dealt with quickly and avoid the more robust further assessment walking criterion tests of the new Blue Badge administration and eligibility assessment practices.
Others come under the O/T based further assessment eligibility criteria, this group will usually take longer. Evidence from recent posts on this forum suggest that not all LA's are using the 2012 legislated criteria .. .. that I don't understand. Other BB issues of course are granted on a temporary basis and not for a full term, these I imagine will also be fast-tracked, and re-assesed later. A further group would be those in receipt of a DS 1500, and their BB issue would be instant without qualification and without question.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Should probably clarify that my post was non-DLA.
This is thanks to the requirement that you can't apply until you've been disabled for 3 months. Then it took us 3 months to fill in the form and another couple of weeks for them to gather medical evidence and make a decision.
We kinda needed the blue badge before then.0
