    OP, do not worry about people telling you you are wrong and that you must have sat on it or whatever. All designs are tolerenced, and to get these devices so light and compact, sometimes they will run right at the tolerence limits. This means even the smallest manufacturing defect can be critical.

    Glass, in particular, is especially good at cracking - all to do with the radius of somethingorother at the tip of the propagating crack (been a while since my manufacturing engineering days), so it would require the tiniest of nicks (and we could even be talking a barely-visible scratch) in a high-tensile glass (as used for thin displays) to make a weak point.

    Most modern devices will have sticky, physical shock-sensors inside, which will prove in a heartbeat if the unit was dropped or not, so don't worry about fingerpointers.
