Hey Piggin,
Can your other half not try and swap with someone else that is doing office duty that week? Other alternative is calling in sick? Not the best way to do it but if the job is a good one its maybe worth the risk?
I hope one of them comes off for you! I know how much difference it would make!Debt Now~Total-£14,366.72~CC-£1,600.00~Sofa-£1,349.01~Loan-£11,417.71

Dont know what he does at the agency but as he volunteers does he "have" to do it then ? Dentist appointment ? or swop with someone else ?Sealed pot challenge 822

Thanks dawnybabes and eamd. Unfortunately none of these options is viable.
The work at the agency isn't voluntary - it is part of his contract. His agency (for his acting work) is a cooperative which means all the artists also act as agents for each other when it is their turn in office.
When it is their duty day they are in the office on their own - and the office must be manned all day.
For both of these reasons 'phoning in sick' or 'a dentist appointment' are not really possible.
His agency is not exactly local so it is not as if he can nip out for half an hour to go for his interview.
Also it is far too short notice to swap - it is Thursday this week we are talking about. Everyone else will have made all their own arrangements for this week on the assumption they are not in the office. I know from past experience how much notice is needed for swapping - a lot!
It's a shame - but it can't be helped.PigginSkint's debt free diary

Hi All
I have been having a play with my finances spreadsheet today – trying to put together a budgeting spreadsheet for myself so I can work out exactly how much money we have got to last the month, whether the money left in my ISA will be enough to tide us over and how much OH needs to pull together from somewhere.
I have one that works quite well but I am fed up with having to reinvent the wheel every month – I would like a spreadsheet that works out it out for me without me having to rejig it every time. Also I would like to be able to plan ahead a bit more and do some proper budgeting. At the moment what I do on a regular basis is look on my internet banking for my current available balance and use that to work out whether I can afford to pay what I need to pay and, if not, how much I need to transfer from elsewhere.
It is not looking quite right at the moment so I need to do quite a bit more work on it yet before it will do what I want it to do. Hopefully once it is sorted it will save me a lot of work. It’s a good job I like playing with spreadsheets!
Had words with OH again last night – why does he have to get so defensive whenever I mention the M word and the J word? Grrr! I mentioned the fact that he had not achieved his target of 10 jobs applied for but that as he was swotting for his maths test on Friday then I would give him a short reprieve. However, once the test is out of the way he will need to get stuck in again. He said that if he manages to get the job that his brother is trying to get for him then it will be sorted. I had the temerity to ask him what he would do if he didn’t get it (a fair question, as his brother can only get him an interview – he can’t guarantee a job). OH’s sarcastic response was ‘oh that’s positive’. Does he not realise that that is not the point! What happens if he doesn’t get it? I am only being realistic in suggesting that it is not a foregone conclusion.
I don’t know…it is almost as if OH always thinks that something will turn up to get him out of the mire. He doesn’t realise that sometimes you have actually got to put some effort in yourself! You can’t just wait for something to land in your lap!
I got upset (again!) and told him that I don’t want to play the bad guy but he is making it very difficult for me.
Well, we will see! If any of the following happens I think I shall come down on him like a ton of bricks:
- The job that his brother is trying to get for him, comes to nothing and…
- He does not make sufficient effort to find work
- He does not manage to get the money together to pay the Halifax bill.
I know I have said this already, but is it too much to ask?!
Anyway, I am going to try to bite my lip for now – at least until after his maths test on Friday. Oh I really hope he passes - he should do, because he has been putting quite a lot of work in on it.
I think that’s all the news for now – bye all!

Forgot to say…
Today I posted the 2 books that I sold through Amazon on Sunday evening – both 90p 2nd class so that wasn’t too bad.
How’s this for a coincidence? Both books were WeightWatchers cookbooks which sold in the space of about 2 hours on Sunday evening – to different people.
I wonder if WeightWatchers have got a promotion on at the moment?PigginSkint's debt free diary

I'm a new member of the same club - OH resigned from his job a couple of weeks ago......with nothing to go to......and seems to be hoping that the doorbell will go and someone will be there when he opens the door, offering the perfect job, with the perfect salary, bupa cover, and 8 weeks holiday.....:D
Well, it happens......doesn't it:rotfl:
Of course, my OH has the time to "help out" at the voluntary work he does........and no, of course that time couldn't be better spent actually trawling the agencies, job centres, newspapers etc, or putting together his CV.....Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. I had a nightmarish trip home from work today. My train left Birmingham New Street on time but then we got stuck. Ahead of us something had hit a bridge (a lorry I assume) and they had to wait for a structural engineer to come out to check that it was safe before we could continue. What should have been a 15 minute train journey took an hour and a half!PigginSkint's debt free diary
