    Hi All

Can’t believe I haven’t done an update so far today!

Feeling a bit icky again today – don’t really know why. I am just generally a bit under the weather again I think. Got all sorts of aches and pains in all sorts of places but nothing really specific.

OH was supposed to be going to an audition tomorrow but his throat and ear are really not very well – not good if he is supposed to be singing. So I think he is going to give that one a miss – he won’t be able to do it justice.

Late night again last night because of my course. My train home was late and slow running because of a freight train in front of us so I was even later getting home than normal. I had a good soak in the bath and went to bed – bliss!!

Booked my next Sainsburys delivery today as it is 3 weeks until the next payday today and that particular date became available for booking. After that there is only one more before Christmas – how scary is that?!

Not much else to tell really. No money saving updates today!!

Oh well better get on with some work, less than 2 hours to go until I can go home!! :j

    Hi All

    THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY!!!!

I am soooo tired today. I have been having late nights all week and it has finally caught up with me. I can’t wait to go home today. I have worked out how many hours I have done this week so hopefully I may get to leave a bit early today – I was 0.75 down at the end of the last week but if I leave at normal time today (4pm) that will be cancelled out and I will actually be 0.75 over. This means I could leave at 3:15pm if I want to – I think I just might!!

The balance on the Egg card is looking very scary – I shall definitely have to do some serious leaning on OH later! He has not yet set his internet banking up but he said he would do it today as he has got a day off. Over the last week I have sent him copies of the last few statements and highlighted everything that is his spending or is cat related (which he has agreed to repay) so he knows exactly how much he has got to pay back. I did show him how to access the account online but he hasn’t done it yet!! It’s a good job one of us is organised when it comes to money…it’s a good job one of is organised full stop!!

I fully intend to do some serious listing on Amazon this weekend as I have nothing currently on there. I am sure the run up to Christmas is a good time to do this.

I am hoping to make my Christmas cake this weekend so that it can be well ‘fed’ (with brandy – hic!) by the time we get to eat it!

Anyway, better go, lots of work to do today…if I can get motivated that is!!

  • Hi All

Hooray! I have been having withdrawal symptoms through not being able to get into the Forums for the past 2 days. (I even registered with Facebook yesterday). I also see that the earlier posts in my diary have gone – I hope the techies are able to restore them. Luckily for me, I have been in the habit of printing off the posts from this diary and sticking them in a good old-fashioned paper diary, so for my own record I haven’t lost any, but it is a bit disappointing to lose them from here. I am not sure how much sense this thread makes to new readers of it if they don’t know the background!

Anyway, on with the update proper, which I have been working on since Monday (I always prepare it off line and then copy and paste it onto here).

I didn’t get round to listing anything on Amazon but I did have a fairly productive weekend.

Sunday evening I started making my Christmas cake and puddings. I use the recipes out of the Delia Christmas book. You make the mixture for the puddings one day and then put them in basins and steam them the next. For the cake you put the dried fruit in a bowl and soak them overnight in a few tablespoons of brandy, then do the rest the next day. So guess what I did Monday evening! It was a bit of a late night because I had to steam the puddings one at a time in my pressure cooker and they took 2 hours each. Also my cake took 4 hours to cook. As soon as my cake came out of the oven and the last pudding came out of the pressure cooker I went straight to bed. Last night I took the cake out of the tin, fed it, wrapped it and put it in a storage tin – I do need some bigger elastic bands to put round it though, I could only find small ones at home. I must also re-wrap my puddings - I went to do it last night and discovered I had run out of baking parchment. I have asked OH to buy me some today but as I have given him quite a long list of jobs to do today so he might forget that one! Once they are re-wrapped I will have to store them somewhere.

Yesterday morning my Avon delivery came so I bagged that up yesterday evening. I actually got my books ready on Monday evening – how organised am I for a change!! OH is putting my books out for me today and I shall do my deliveries tomorrow evening.

I managed to get quite a bit of housework done over the weekend and even got OH and DS to do quite a bit as well. I am so glad I bought a timer – it has worked like a dream! On Saturday I said that we all had to do an hour of housework before going out, and everyone got stuck in – I pointed out that if we waited until we got home we wouldn’t feel like doing it. We did about 20 minutes and then we had to go into town because OH had a technical hitch – he was unblocking the Dyson and once he got it open he discovered that the belt had gone so we had to buy a new one. As it was already about 3pm by this time we had to hotfoot it into town so we could go and see the ‘hoover man’ on the market before he finished for the day. I am glad to say that when we got home from our shopping expedition, and after we had had a cup of tea, I restarted the timer and we finished off the hour’s housework before X-Factor started. I think this is something I shall now insist on every Saturday, so I don’t get lumbered with it all!!

On Sunday afternoon, after OH had gone out to his panto rehearsal, DS and I got stuck into doing some more housework in 15 minute bursts. I set the timer for 15 minutes and when time was up we could have a break, before doing it again, and so on. We didn’t do this all afternoon, just up until the repeat of the X-Factor results show at 3:30pm (I had missed it the evening before because OH and I fell asleep on the sofa) and then we did some more in the gap between the end of X-Factor and the start of Return of the Jedi. For the rest of the evening I did my usual habit of doing bits in the advert breaks – it’s amazing how much can be achieved that way. So the upshot of it was that by Sunday evening I had a reasonably clean kitchen! Also, DS volunteered to do some cleaning in the bathroom (something OH had started on Saturday) so even that room is quite clean now!

On Friday evening while I was eating my dinner (Indian Takeaway – mmmmm! Naughty but nice) I had a bit of a horrendous experience. I have had a very clicky jaw for quite a long time now and occasionally it gets stuck – particularly when I am stressed or have a headache. I spoke to my GP about it and he said that it would probably eventually get better on its own and consultants rarely do anything for it anyway. I have a mouthguard that I meant to wear at night because I grind my teeth, which apparently would probably help with this problem. The trouble is, probably because I am quite claustrophobic, I can very rarely cope with having it in and end up spitting it out after a very short time. Anyway on Friday evening it decided to ‘crack’ quite badly – I suddenly had this really intense pain. For the first few seconds I thought I had bitten myself, and then realised what had really happened. The pain was horrendous and I could barely move my jaw. I did take some paracetamol which did seem to take the edge off it a bit. Anyway, to cut a long story short I ended up in the minor injuries unit, and when I eventually got to see the doctor he said there was nothing really they could do, to take some Ibuprofen, see my GP and go to casualty if it got really bad. So one job for this week is to go and see my GP and I wonder whether I ought to see my dentist as well – I will ask my GP when I see him and see what he thinks. It feels better now, but still not right, and I am very careful when I eat in case it happens again!

Anyway, I must get on with some work now! Bye all!

  • Hi All

Well I have finally got around to making myself an appointment at the doctors for this afternoon, about my jaw. I still don’t know whether I should be seeing a doctor or a dentist about it but I am sure they will advise. I have also got ear ache but I suspect that is probably just referred pain from my jaw. What I do know is that I have got a stinking cold and I am completely knackered – I feel like I could sleep for a week.

Today I have sent an email to OH telling him what the current balance is on the Egg card – about £690! I am hoping this might be the prod needed to finally sort out his internet banking and get some paid off it. My patience is wearing a little thin now!

That’s about all for now – if I think of anything else I will post again later.

    Bye all!

  • Hi All

THANK GOODNESS IT IS FRIDAY!!! It has been a very busy week and I am now very tired!

I went to the doctors yesterday afternoon and as I suspected, she told me I would need to go to the dentist. It wasn’t a wasted visit though because while I was there she gave me my flu jab and checked my blood pressure because it had been slightly raised last time – it was fine this time.

My dentist is only about 4 doors down from my doctors so I went straight there to make an appointment and they have managed to fit me in for this afternoon, so that’s good.

I shall probably need a new mouthguard. I have one already because I grind my teeth. However, I hardly ever wear it because I just can’t get on with it. I am rather claustrophobic and I just can’t cope with it in my mouth most of the time – I end up spitting it out.

OH has lost his keys and his phone – they are joined together. We last saw them on Wednesday night when he had come to meet me at the station to walk home with me – because I got back late because of my course. We popped in the garage on the way because we needed to buy milk and he definitely had them then. When we got home I am almost sure he had them then because he started to get his keys out to unlock the door but I beat him to it with mine. Besides, if he had dropped them on the way I think we would have known about it. Which means they are almost certainly in the house somewhere, but we just can’t find them. Luckily we have a spare set of keys so he has been using them, but of course it is really annoying that he can’t find his phone. I have told him he will probably find them when he is looking for something else – that’s usually what happens to me!

I did not do my Avon deliveries last night because I was late home as a result of having a late appointment at the doctors and also because I was very very tired!

I finally succumbed and put the heating on last night. It seems to be working O.K. because the radiators were warm this morning (most of them anyway – I think the one in the living room is either off or needs bleeding) which is a relief. Most years that I have been in that house we have had to give the pump a whack before it would start working again – last year was the first time that we didn’t have to do it. It is a real pain if we have to do it as the pump is under the floorboards, under my wardrobe in our bedroom so involves a major unpacking and furniture moving exercise to get at! I am thinking about doing a bit of furniture moving anyway as the radiator in the living room is obscured by a very large bookcase. I have a grand plan to move so the heat from the radiator can actually heat the room instead of the back of the bookcase – it will also mean an extra radiator to use to dry clothes on. One other job I need to do is change the timings a little – at the moment the heating and water comes on at 7:00am which is not much good as most days I get up at 6:30am! I think the evening one needs adjusting a little as well. Also I noticed this morning that only the Central Heating light was on, not the hot water. Obviously a little tweaking needed there too! The trouble is that the controls for the heating (and the meters) are in such a blooming awkward place that it is really difficult to see what you are doing!

I think that’s all for now, if I think of anything else I will update again later.

    Bye all!
