Orange have sent me instructions on unlocking my iphone4 as I requested this as I am at the end of my contract and want to go with a cheaper sim. Must admit I thought they unlock it not me!
I have a giffgaff sim card cut to micro sim size. The Orange instructions say take out orange sim and insert a non orange 3g sim card - this must be a network provider who also supplies the iphone/ipad. To my knowledge giffgaff don't supply iphone/ipad only sim cards. How am I going to get a sim card that meets this requirement without having to pay for it and start a new payg or contract with it. Many thanks if anyone can help.

I've already got my micro sim from giffgaff. My question is how do I get a sim from a supplier of iphone/ipad as giffgaff are not a supplier of iphone/ipad they are a supplier of sim cards or is that the same thing anyway?
If anyone can clarify that for me I would be grateful as I would like to unlock my handset this weekend. TIA.

My apologies for misreading your post.

This makes no sense to me - like many other things that Orange say.

How long ago did you ask them? It can take upto 3 weeks for Apple to unlock it. Also you need to plug your iPhone into iTunes (With new sim) for the unlock to take place sometimes. Over the air unlocking is still a little dogie (New feature only been there since 5.0.1).

This surely isn't that difficult to understand, take your giffgaff sim, put it in your iPhone, plug your phone into iTunes, done

Thanks Grumbler you always end up helping me! I agree with you about Orange. I won't recomend them I must admit. I'll try the giffgaff sim and see how it goes!

I rang them on 23 Feb to ask for it to be unlocked and it took them until 2 April to send the unlocking instructions as they say they hadn't had my first request even though they had charged me the £20 and sent me a text saying thanks for your request to unlock your phone! So I expected them to unlock it for me not send me instructions! However, they sent me an e-mail with 9 steps on it to unlock it. You are right I must connect to itunes. It was in the instructions(but thanks anyway for letting me know that) but I didn't need to post all the instructions in my op as I was ok with that step but just wanted to find out what knowledge anyone had about the non orange 3g sim being a Giffgaff. I'll try it and post how I got on!

I'm pleased to report I was able to unlock it with the giffgaff sim. Took less than 5 mins and only needed to follow steps 1-3. As usual info/process from Orange isn't up to date. Hope this thread helps others.
