Nationwide e-ISA won't allow me to top up

Well its the new tax year and I went to top up my Nationwide e-ISA online by transfer from my Flex Account and it wouldn't let me.

A message came up saying I didn't pay anything in last year and I would have to fill in a renewal form.

This wasn't correct as I did make a payment to Nationwide last year, but because I consolidated/merged some ISA accounts into a new e-ISA (to get a better rate) there wasn't a record of any payments in the account.

Anyway, I sorted it by filling in a renewal form online. It was under "other account services" for my e-ISA account. After filling this in (just tick a box and confirm my NI number and address) the top-up was allowed.

I thought I would post this in case anyone else finds they have the same issue.

I had to renew my ISA online with Halifax because i didnt pay into it last year. Like you only a tick box and put my password in

Is there a reason we have to do that? Never done it before

The renewal is just a formal cash ISA application where the account already exists. When you top-up, a provider needs either an application form from you for the current year or that you made a contribution (other than transfers in) to the ISA in the previous year.

If you're just topping up and you made a payment in the last year, a renewel form is not required. This is what the clause "I apply for a cash ISA this year and subsequent years where I make a payment ... " is all about on the application forms.

In my case I only needed to complete a renewal form because of a shortcoming/mistake with the way the online banking works.

Yea not sure why i had to, just saw the option at the top of the accounts page so quickly did it.

I filled in a form to redesignate my ISA anyway straight afterwards. That shouldnt prove an issue should it? Renewing then redesignating?
