Who is the main provider for smaller ISP's?

Hi there,

I'm interested to know who is the root provider for each of the broadband ISP's. for instance who is the broadband connection ultimately with when you sign up with Utility Warehouse or MadasaFish? I know a lot of these providers just use BT wholesale lines but if you ask them they will not tell you.
The reason I ask is that I wish to know when LLU will be installed in my local exchange  . I can get details of most of the root broadband providers enabled for LLU on my local exchange by using the exhange search on SamKnows but the smaller ISPs are not mentioned presumably because they lease lines from one of the bigger providers.
Are there any MSE forum users who work in this trade who can let me know please?

  • Hi Mccartrey,

Madasafish is owned and operated by Brightview Group Ltd. (www.brightview.com)

    We are a BT reseller.

Not a lot of smaller ISPs (like us) have gone onto LLU yet. There are many reasons for this. Principally there is a huge initial investment from the ISP that needs to be made, bigger ISPs are better set to spend this kind of cash.

In the long term if an ISP does go onto LLU and it goes smoothly then it can save the ISP a lot of cash (reducing BT costs) and in turn they can lower the cost to the customer making their packages more attractive.

There hasn't been 100% smooth customer transitions onto LLU by the bigger providers which has resulted in some fairly well publicised customer dissatisfaction. I think that a lot of us smaller guys are holding back on the investment until we're certain that we can move our customers onto LLU without disrupting their services.

I hope that helps shed some more light on this for you!

    Kind regards,
    Samara
