possibly moving to virgin - questions

hi
we have sky at the moment but moving into a new house with virgin connection. house doesnt have any BT line at the moment.
so am looking at either installaing BT line and sky TV or continuing with virgin. Prices on virgin do seem more expensive but i had a particular question regarding package changes during contract terms.
with sky you must have a minimum package and then u can add sports / movies / other mixes when required and it can easily be removed (by giving 30 days notice). with virgin i was told that every time i change a package (eitehr upgrade or downgrade) i start a new 18 month contract. is this correct?
any other advise on virgin vs sky welcome!

For adding sky sports or movies on Virgin you only have to have them for a minimum of 30 days I think, I was looking at it recently when I was thinking of adding F1. So they are more flexible that way.
If you're going to want broadband, I found Virgin's cable broadband very good. But the phones are expensive.0 -
Dont do it, virgin is pap!
Some service they offer are a bit better but in general the sky packages are way better. We did it and spent 11 mths waiting for the contract to finish to go back to sky. Its just not user friendly ( im 24 so not exactly a technophobe) the whole system just doesnt flow right and it takes twice as long to find channels.
Im sure youll have a fair few who like virgin but why pay more for an inferior product?! AFAIA the customer service is no better, though better retention deals at sky.0 -
Totally disagree with the above poster. Have had both services and I find Virgin better
You see, we all have different opinions with regards to it.
Add on packages like movies and sports are 30 days. The first 12 month contract will be the size of the package you have for TV. The add ons you can definitely remove after 30 days.
Should you opt to go with Virgin, I would also advise you to look at their mobile contracts, pretty good deals if you are with Virgin Media4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
There are plenty of other options-what are your LLU suppliers?
Do an exchange search on https://www.samknows.com to find out.
Sky broadband is OK if it's LLU-otherwise you will be on Sky Connect, which is just a resold BT Wholesale service. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I moved to Virgin in November last year after being with Sky for 20 years, wish I had done it sooner. I have 3 Tivo boxes and they leave my old Sky HD box for dead.:pB&SC No. 298
Life`s Tragedy is that we get OLD too soon
and WISE too late!0 -
We were in a very similar situation a couple of years ago when we moved.......There is alot to think about when you move BUT I think it is really worth considering all your options.
We went with VM.
The cable broadband is good. The phone is OK but calls expensive.
The TV package is OK and we have recently had the old V+ box put upstairs and got the Tivo box downstairs, in theory it is great, in practice it crashes and sticks quite a bit. Which is annoying. Plus they got even this wrong and the installers had to come out twice, once to bring the Tivo box and again the following week to locate the v+ upstairs, when they admit they should have done it all at once. Plus the bill has been wrong every month since (not the agreed package price) and we have had to contact them to get them to correct it.
I think that VM customer services have got worse (in my experience) during the past two years, not just the call centres abroad who can't get you off the phone quick enough, but the UK call centres who can be quite patronising and rude.
I can't recommend VM in all honesty because the customer service is so poor. Shame because the product is OK.Thanks to all posters for your never ending help and support:beer:0
