  • One of my good mates is a childminder, and she loves it. She's in a similar position to you, with two little uns under five. She said it's given her a lot more flexibility than she ever had when she was working full time in nurseries, and she's recently gone to part time from full time because she felt she needed a bit of 'me' time. A few conversations with parents etc. and number crunching, and voila done! No muss no fuss. And she's said she can go back to full time if she wants/needs to. Good luck at the meeting :)

  • Just wanted to say - are you sure they won't help with childcare? Me and my husband earn about £26,000 between us and get help with childcare ( for two children i think we pay £185 per week........)

  • I just put the same details into the official tax credits website and that said we'd entitled to help too! I don't get it?

  • Ste called the tax credits tonight and we are entitled to help. Thank god! Don't know what that other woman worked out but she must have been drunk when I called. lol! The guy on the phone quoted us £169 a week which works out that we'd only have to add £100 or so to make up the fees and we'd end up with nearly double the spare money every month after bills, food and petrol so going to definately go for it. Apparently if you do your NVQ level 3 qualification with them and pass they give you a £250 'Well done' as well. Bonus!
Just have to go to the interview now, whenever that is. lol.

I'm so glad you rang them again, it just didn't seem right that you would get nothing - I'm sure you can earn fifty-odd thousand per year between you and still get some childcare help.

    Good luck with the interview!
