My friend has just called (The one who works at the nursery I've applied for the job at.) with the figures for wages/childcare. Basically, wages wise I would be on £4.61 until I turn 22 on the 4th June, and would then be on £5.35 which works out at a take home of £781.49 a month. The childcare for the girls would be £784.87 which includes a 30% discount which is a lot better than I thought TBH for 2 full time places. Have crunched some numbers on the entitledto.co.uk website which has said we'd get £249 (£996 a month based on a 4 weds month.) a week for the coming year, and then £179 a week (£716) next year. Have got to call the tax credit office and confirm this but it's looking like we'll be much better off for me going back to work. Apparently the manager said that we could also pay weekly which would be a lot easier because of the tax credits BUT they would need a months nursery fees in advance.
Once I've spoken to the tax credits people Ste and I need to sit down and think about it carefully. We'll be tonnes better off if what I've worked out is right but it would mean putting off Barclaycard for a bit while we got the nearly £800 advance nursery fees together.
Argh! What do I do!!!

Can't give you the answer, sorry, but just go with whatever "feels" right.

Defiantely trust your instincs, and remeber if you dont like it you can always leave.
As far as the fees up front go, can they not make an allowance for you? Astons starts nursery on moday and my fees are £550pm, you basically get invoiced a month in advance but my nursery manager says i can pay weekly so i'll pay on a monday for the week ahead (if that makes sense):j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
Well - it's quite a nice dilema to have. The option of a job and getting to keep and eye on the kids and having more money - sounds good to me although I haven't read the previous thread.
I can't believe you're only 21- I thought you were older than that( because you have children I guess and not many people I knew at that age had/have kids).
Good Luck with whatever you decide.Making my money go further with MSE :j

Right well decision made. Just called tax credits and they're saying because our joint income would be 24k that we wouldn't get ANY help with childcare so we'd be working for a loss each month as we'd go down to £26 a week CTC.. Nightmare. Well at least there's no decision to be made now. I can't afford to go back to work and it's as simple as that.
So looks like we're going to knuckle down and pay off as much as humanly possible before we lose my income altogether come May. I don't get how entitledto.co.uk can tell me I'd have our childcare covered plus more and then the tax credits computer says we wouldn't get squat!
Oh well. We'll just have to soldier on and look at maybe going back to work when Ashli gets her free sessions. Part of me is absolutely gutted though as I was beginning to lok forward to having my independance back and being able to contribute to the family rather that just being a housewife which I was always adimant I'd never become. Gutted.
Anyway, on a brighter note it means we don't have to worry about finding the money for the advance fees and can plow everything into paying off debts before May. Plus Ste will be happy when he passes his test because he'll have full run of the car. lol.
Ah well! Back to concentrating on paying off debts!Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

i haven't read the rest of this thread, so apologies if I am saying something that someone has already said, but have you considered childminding?
That way you would still be with your two during the day and mind another child ...That's Numberwang!0 -

I have yes. Although I'd probably only be able to take on a couple of children as I have 2 kids under 5 myself and only a small house.. I've been sent the info and am going to a 'pre-registration meeting' on the 27th March so will see what happens there.

Just a quick hello and well done on being so proactive with the childminding possibility. When one door closes, another one often opens but most doors don't open by themselves.
Well done on everything you've achieved so far, that list is getting crossed off at quite some speed!I joined the 21k debt free in 2 years head to head challenge 12 December 06

Oh, sorry that the decision has been taken out of your hands somewhat. I too have had no success with entitledto- it tells me I should be much better off!
Def look into the childminding - even if you were able to take in one child, perhaps around Ashli's age, so that you could take them to the same places etc that you would anyway, this would help with the income? My childminder is the most fabulous person I've ever met - an updated booklet with photos and printed sheet about what ds has learnt/will be learning in the past/next four weeks. Only there 2 days a week too
So what i mean is, with your dedication to things, I'm sure that you'd make a great childminder!
