Interesting thread, I live close to the metro centre and shop there occasionally... Tbh, I didnt even know there were spaces you had to pay for, every time I've parked there I must have parked in a free space or I've been really lucky, would love to see this go somewhere!0

the 10,000 spaces ARE free to park in, the same as it's always been. However, if someone parks over 2 spaces, parks in an area that isn't designated a parking space, parks in the bit where they wash the cars, then they should expect some kind of telling off, and that telling off now comes in the form of a fine by the parking company.Interesting thread, I live close to the metro centre and shop there occasionally... For others on the thread who find parking over 2 spaces, parking in parts that are not designated parking spaces etc etc ok, then I don't care if you like my opinions or not. It's a forum, people are allowed opinions.
We've gone round and round and round the MC many a time and couldn't find a parking space at peak times, it would never occur to us to just find a bit of road and park in it or whatever. Rules are there for a reason and it's about time some rude people started following them and stopped moaning about being told off about their bad behaviour.
People who are fined who HAVEN'T done anything wrong, are of course, quite entitled to get annoyed about being ticketed. When your life is a mess, stop and think what you are doing before bringing more kids into it, it's not fair on them.

Oh dear, looks like someones failed to grab an understanding of some basic facts.
Whilst people shouldnt park in placers there not suposed to, such as disabled bays that there not entitled to a private company or individual has no right what so ever to impose a punative, or excessive charge upon another person, if the sign says you agree to pay a charge of £XX and this charge is higher than the charge to park it is a penalty/excessive charge and the contract is nulll and void.
If you overstay in a car park, ocupy more than one space, all you can be charged for is the genuine loss, if the parking rate is 80p per hour and you overstay by 30 minutes you owe them £0.40p , if you park for an hour and use two bays the most you owe is £0.80p
you can use the same formula for whatever the parking charge is so for a free car park the cost of parking per hour is £0.00, if you overstay by 30 minutes you owe half this sum which is £0.00, if you take up more than one space you potentialy owe no more than the same amount which is £0.00.
As for a telling off, thats all you can do when people park in the wrong place, on private land pictures of wheelchairs ( often uninteligable as the markings usualy have worn out) yellow ( or any other coloured) lines, and any other pictures, lines and markings have absolutly no meaning whatsoever, other than a request for people not to park there, in a simalar way to when i have been working in a car park ( usualy at large events such as county shows/displays etc) and politely asked drivers not to park in a certain area, as its our disabled area/ acces area ( and theres a risk of cars parked there being damaged as large vehicles need access - thats why were asking you to move, thanks )

Soapn: You seem to have lost track of the fact that it is not legal for any individual or private company to fine another.
You might even have half a case if the PPC only ticketed people for poor parking if the car park was crammed. Though charging what they try to is never justified.
But it is a scam so they would put a ticket on even if yours was the only car in the car park and there were 9,998 empty spaces.
No one here is seeking to condone obstructive parking or deliberate refusal to pay a fair charge for parking where it is a paying car park.
It is the antics of the so-called management company (mis-management is a better description) that we concern ourselves with.
And like many of the forums here our objective is help, not judgment. If all you have to offer is the latter then I suggest you keep it to yourself.
As I tried to explain before this is a specialist HELP forum and "opinions" like yours are superfluous. Put it up on General Discussion if you want to talk about it without being helpful.0 -
Hi a quick update on the rquest to pay from the metro centre car park. I recived a cancellation of thecharge from teh metro centre management but only after getting my local MP to ocntact them and request a response, The metro centre manafement confirmed that Morobike pafrking was not adequate. They then went on o advise that 82% of their requests for payment were targeted at missuse of Disabled bays and that 80% of all theinvoices issued were cancelled on appeal. Have still had no formal response from the parking company but I do belive that the standard letter format alos helped to resolve the issues. At the end of theday a lot of work but just maybe it will get them to change their hitler type tactics thanks again for all the comments and help0

Well done.
Regarding your last sentence, some of us remain cynical, but I hope you are right!Je Suis Cecil.0 -

Even then, that in the reply makse nonsense of their claims - "Disabled" bays have absolutely no legal meaning in the context of private parking. They are merely a courtesy and any charges "enforced" on people using them are no more legal than your average PPC toilet paper.
Also, the Blue Badge Scheme does not apply on private property - Its the Equality Act that applies here and anyone disabled under that act is entitled to a reasonable adjustment for parking, which could involve any bay, number of bays or location, badge or "disabled" location notwithstanding.
TBH, the Metro Centre are pretty much landing themselves in it for a substanial fine and unlimited compensation by even admitting this, should anyone want to take this further with action.0
