Do I drive, fly or catch train?

Only ammendment I'd have to the above route is rather than take the 702 I would travel further up and cut across the A71 - as before it's a long, wide, fast and relatively straight road. Just be careful as you don't want to hit anywhere east of West Calder later than say 3.30 as the 71 jams right up.
Also means that depending which side of the city you're staying in you don't need to touch the bypass at all - though if you're early enough it wouldn't matter anyway.
Thanks, were staying in an apartment on the Royal Mile, I'm not sure where that is in relation to the bypass.
I think, doing it this way, were going to go for more enjoyable roads rather than the fastest or straightest. It would be nice to find some quieter single carriageway if the drive was more enjoyable.0 -
You'll be best coming in on Slateford road then (which is probably still the A70 actually) - but if you choose the other route you could also come in through morningside (likely to be a little more congested) or come 5 mins up the bypass and along the same road.
Google maps will reveal all - will be dead easy0 -

I said 701, not 702.
701 is a much more fun drive than the 702 in my experience
Careful if you do take the 701. There's two exits marked A701. You want the second one, J15.
Here is the route I had in mind.0 -
Ah yeah sorry, I did know you meant the 701 but the brain didn't engage and type the correct keys. Tbh I'd still take the A71 but it depends on whether the op want's to wake up a bit after crossing the border I guess, there won't be too much time between both especially if he doesn't really know the roads.
I tend to cut across like that after driving up from Bristol area so really just want the quickest route I can get - hence why I quite like the A71 as it's rather wide and visibility is good.0 -

Any more for anymore?
Newport (South Wales), or Severn Junction -> London?
Bonus points if you can end it at a station other than Paddington, one that has wheelchair access onto the underground, but if not Paddington is fine too.0
